There have been long delays at the National Congress of Cosatu taking place in Midrand north of Johannesburg. Chaos erupted following Food and Allied Workers Union FAWU and clothing union SACCAWU objecting to the presence of Second deputy President Zingiswa Losi and new metalworkers union Limusa in the meeting on the basis of the labour federation's constitution. A South African Scientist, from the University of Cape Town, Professor Jill Farrant, is leading global research into developing crops that can survive extreme water shortages. These crops are said to have similar surviving skills in extreme drought as resurrection plants.

Cosatu will be looking to reclaim its badge of honour as the worker's champion at this week's National Congress taking place in Midrand, north of Johannesburg. The Tshwane University of Technology, has suspended exams scheduled for today (Monday), after students went on the rampage at its Soshanguve campus, north of Pretoria over the weekend. The institution's spokespeson Willa de Ruyter, says following a meeting of management at the institution yesterday, a decision was taken to postpone examinations. The Chairperson of the Commission that are investigating the churches - Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva - says she fears for her life as Pastors who are being investigated come to meetings heavily armed. The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural Religious and Linguistic Communities was established to investigate allegations of commercialisation of religion and the abuse of people's beliefs. African Union Commission Chairperson - Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma - says eradicating poverty and injustices is pivotal in efforts to fight terrorism and establish sustainable peace. Dlamini-Zuma said this when she accepted the 2015 Africa Peace Award on behalf of the AU at a gala dinner in Durban. She says the award serves as an encouragement to Africans to redouble efforts to build peace and solidarity. The award was presented by the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes - or ACCORD. Zanele Buthelezi reports
