The National Assembly has rejected the motion of no-confidence against President Jacob Zuma, with 221 votes. The motion was voted for by 113 members and eight abstained. The motion was brought by the DA shortly after Agang's withdrew theirs at the eleventh hour. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Political Analyst, Dr Somadoda Fikeni.

EFF leader Julius Malema will wait until June 1st, to know if his provisional sequestration order is made final, or scrapped by the North Gauteng High court. The court postponed the case yesterday,to the first of June, after the South African Revenue Service filed affidavits stating that Malema had reneged from last year's agreement to pay back the outstanding tax, by the end of November 2014. Malema's Legal team challenged the SARS allegation, before the presiding Judge Ferdi Preller instructed the disputing parties to return to court on the 1st of June to make their case. According to the Sunday Times, a Johannesburg dentist and a beautician are said to have benefited from multimillion-rand contracts from Eskom, without the proper credentials. This revelation comes at the back of the suspension of four senior Eskom officials, as the power utility embarks on a fact-finding inquiry. Sakina spoke to Sunday Times Senior Investigative Reporter, Piet Rampedi who worked on the story.

We contacted Eskom for an interview, they were not available but offered a written response- this is what they had to say:

The Eskom Board Tender Committee issued the procurement team with a mandate to negotiate but not conclude contracts with a number of potential suppliers of diesel fuel to Eskom's open cycle gas turbine power stations. These suppliers will be required to provide quantities of diesel when required over and above that supplied by existing contracted suppliers. An open tender process was followed. The invitation to tender was published in the national press and negotiations have not yet been concluded. The tender evaluation criteria included supplier development and localisation requirements, technical capability, safety, health environmental and quality stipulations together with financial and commercial criteria. A significant amount of time and effort was spent by senior specialist Eskom officials to evaluate the tenders in a secure environment. The entire process, up until submission to the Board Tender Committee and going forward has been and will be audited by an independent external audit firm. Contracts will only be concluded once the necessary governance approval has been obtained following the conclusion of the negotiation process.

Humble, dedicated and a hard worker. These are some of the descriptions for the late public service and administration minister Collins Chabane. Government has described his death as a great loss for the country. Chabane died when a car he was travelling in collided with a truck on the N1 between Polokwane and Mokopane in Limpopo. Two body guards who were accompanying him also died. Tributes continue pouring in for the 55 year old.
