Minister of Mineral Resources, Ngoako Ramatlhodi has confirmed that tomorrow (Thursday), President Jacob Zuma will announce a decision on which minerals should be classified as strategic. Last year, the Minister indicated that government was considering categorising certain minerals such as coal and iron ore as strategic. Declaring minerals strategic would curtail exports for mining companies and force them to sell the minerals to local companies at prices set by the government. South Africa's largest food retailer Shoprite has challenged all food companies in the country to cut their food prices and pass on the savings to South African consumers. Shoprite has urged other retailers to "Give the money Back to the People"- citing four consecutive decreases in the price of petrol since August last year.
