The work done by the Advisory Panel, which reviewed the socio-economic impact of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project, was warmly welcomed at the end of the ANC Gauteng's 3-day Lekgotla held in Tshwane. The Advisory Panel was appointed last year, by Gauteng Premier David Makhura. Lekgotla reiterated the ANC Gauteng's position that eTolls in their current form, are undesirable and unworkable. The Department of Basic Education says it is going ahead with implementing a new training programme which will see Maths teachers being retrained. Part of the training will involve testing teachers, and the pass mark is 80 percent. The new programme has raised eyebrows, with education stakeholders complaining that it will take teachers out of school for 23 days a year.
