SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande says SACP members must make sure that expelled metalworkers union NUMSA does not succeed outside Cosatu. Nzimande was speaking at the 7th SACP KwaZulu-Natal Elective Congress in Umzimkhulu, in the southern part of the province. He says it is the responsibility of the SACP to intervene and cripple the growth of NUMSA in all its activities.

The Justice Project South Africa says the latest road fatality and accident figures for the festive season, are shocking. The Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters released the figures yesterday, showing that over 1 143 people have died, and that there has been a total of 924 car accidents. The Justice Project South Africa says it is deeply saddened and alarmed, as the number announced represents an increase of 466 fatalities in the 5 days between 23 and 28 December 2014 - or an average of 93 fatalities per day over the last report on 24 December. The search for an AirAsia passenger jet that vanished over Indonesian waters yesterday has resumed. Eight Indonesian aircraft and several navy ships have been taking part in the search along with ships and planes from Malaysia and Singapore. Australia has also sent a search aircraft. 162 people were aboard the airliner when it disappeared from radar screens. It was flying to Singapore from the Indonesian city of Surabay.
