City of Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga and his city manager Moeketse Mosola have been summoned to appear before the Human Rights Commission within 48 hours following allegations of contaminated water in the Hammanskraal area north of Pretoria. The HRC has also launched a probe into the local Jubilee district hospital following reports of poor service delivery. Solly Salang Motsepe and Maluti Obuseng filed this report.

Security is tight at the Emmet Cecil Hall at Vryheid in northern KwaZulu-Natal, where public hearings on the proposed amendment of Section 25 of the constitution are taking place. The amendment will give or allow government to expropriate land without compensation. Police have been deployed to do a security check on everyone who enters the hall. Hundreds of community members have turned up to make their voice heard on the issue. Organisations that are fighting for the rights of farm dwellers, commercial farmers and business people are also attending. Our reporter Khalesakhe Mbhense is at the hearings.

Police in the Western Cape are investigating the murder of a 37-year-old woman from the small town of Ashton in the Boland. The woman's body was discovered in her shack. She had been stabbed to death. The incident follows only days after the body of 16-year-old Berodine Boyce, was found in Laingville at St Helena Bay, after she was reported missing. The International community is celebrating Nelson Mandela centenary today. His birth place at Mvezo village, outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, is abuzz with activities, with former presidents and Miss World gracing the occasion. It's set to host the biggest celebration, attended by president Cyril Ramaphosa, who will give the keynote address. Former presidents from South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania as well as Kenyan legal expert, Professor Patrick Lumumba, who delivered the Nelson Mandela Memorial Lecture in Mthatha last night, will also be in attendance. Mandela's grandson who is also the Chief of Mvezo, Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, has explained some of the festivities that will be taking place during the celebrations.

Former US president, Barack Obama says Africa's young people can effect change in many ways but warns against the idea that politics do not matter. Obama has been engaging with young people from across the continent at the African Leadership Academy in Honeydew, Johannesburg. He says young people should not shy away from politics.

Consumers will start paying a little more at the till following a jump in inflation. Statistics South Africa has reported that inflation increased by 0-point-2 percentage points taking inflation to 4-point-6 percent in June 2018, from 4-point-4 in May 2018. Former First Lady Graça Machel says the planting of one hundred trees in Johannesburg ahead of the 16th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture this afternoon encapsulates the spirit of Madiba. Machel together with former US Secretary General Kofi Annan are among a group of prominent Elders involved in seeking peace, health and security across the globe. They have been joined by scores of NGO's in the one hundred sparks of hope tree planting initiative.

A report by the Human Sciences Research Council shows that the number of new infections is increasing among young people between the ages of 15 and 24. It has also revealed that incidence of HIV have dropped significantly by 44 percent when compared to the numbers in 2012. The organisation addressed the media this morning in Pretoria where it unveiled the 2017 HIV Prevalence, Incidence, Behaviour and Communication Survey. The study shows that 4.4 million people living with HIV are on treatment. One of the main focus areas was attitudes and knowledge. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Professor Khangelani Zuma, who is the principal investigator of the study.

City of Tshwane Members of the Mayoral Committee says it will conduct an inspection tour of the Rooiwal sewage plant, north of Pretoria, later this week in an effort to deal with the contaminated water supply. Hammanskraal residents protested last week against the failure by of the Tshwane Metro to respond to the problem. Metro authorities recently had to close the Rooiwal sewage plant when it overflowed. Residents say the contaminated water is yellowish in colour and is causing diarrhoea among them.
