The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa says the counterfeit goods market has become a trillion dollar industry across G20 countries. The organisation was commenting after the arrest of six people in the Northern Cape last week on charges relating to producing fake food. The suspects were allegedly producing well-known counterfeit branded household and food items worth about R77 million. Police also confiscated the machinery allegedly used for manufacturing and packaging of the goods. Former First Lady, Graça Machel has challenged young people to redesign systems inherited from the colonial times. Machel was speaking at the Mandela Centenary Dialogue in Johannesburg. The Mayor of the Sol Plaatjie Municipality in Kimberely in the Northern Cape and the province's Premier are yet to meet to discuss issues raised by protesting residents who are accusing the Municipal Manager and the Chief Financial Officer of corruption. The agrrieved community is now also calling for the Mayor Mangaliso Matika's head. The protests started last week and since then nearly 200 people have been arrested for public violence and looting. The High Court in Pretoria has ruled that UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa should desist from making or repeating allegations of corruption at the Public Investment Corporation against a major BEE investment firm and prominent business figures. Holomisa, through an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for the scope of the state capture investigation to be widened to include alleged corruption at the PIC. Lebashe Investment Group, also cited by Holomisa for alleged corruption, has threatened to sue him for defamation. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the UDM leader.

Capper was airlifted from Mount Everest in Nepal about three months ago after having reached base camp in Kathmandu.

The largest radio telescope in the southern hemisphere has been launched in the Northern Cape today. The 4.4 billion telescope will enable scientists to have a clearer view and deeper understanding of the Milky Way Galaxies. This instrument will later form part of the Square Kilometre Array, which will be the largest scientific instrument ever. Deputy President David Mabuza says this will change the course of history.

Business leadership South Africa has dismissed claims by Viceroy Research that a damning report by Intellidex into short-selling in South Africa, was sponsored by a third party. Short selling is defined as the sale of an asset in the belief that the asset's price will decline. This enables it to be bought back at a lower price to make a profit. Viceroy has over the past year published negative reports on prominent South African companies, including Steinhoff and Capitec bank. BLSA CEO, Bonang Mohale says this is not an anti-short selling research project.

SA Express is readying itself for take-off. In its statement, the airline, says the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has reinstated its Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO) certification. Kimberley in the Nothern Cape is still under under a tota shutdown this afternoon. Hundreds of residents from surrounding areas have taken to the streets again today to protest against alleged corruption on the part of the Sol Plaatjie Municipality's Chief Financial Officer and the Municipal Manager. They are accused of irregularly granting a 1.2 million rand tender to a PR company. Some people were stranded this morning and could not go to work.
