The High Court in Polokwane has dismissed a claim for damages by the parents of five-year-old learner Michael Komape, who drowned in a pit toilet in 2014. The family, with the assistance of civil rights groups Section 27, launched a civil case against both the national and provincial education departments. Komape was a learner at Mahlodumela Primary School in Chebeng Village outside Polokwane. His parent wanted compensation of R3 million for their suffering. Our reporter Shibu Mamokgere was in court.
