The IEC expects Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal to record the highest number of new voters on the voters' roll. China has removed presidential term limits from its constitution giving President Xi Jinping the right to remain in office indefinitely. The constitutional changes were passed by China's annual sitting of the National People's Congress YESTERDAY. The amendments also include inserting Xi's political theory into the constitution, something that was already added to the party charter in October at the end of a party congress, a feat no other leader since Chairman Mao had managed while in office.

The police in the Eastern Cape have established a task team to investigate the murders related to taxi violence in the Mthatha area. Five people which include one passenger, have been gunned down over the weekend. A number of people were also wounded in the shootings. Nkululeko Nyembezi has filed this report.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is humbled by interest shown by ordinary South Africans to check and confirm their registration details during voter registration drive at the weekend. He spent the last two days in Soweto and Tshwane encouraging people to register ahead of the 2019 national elections. North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, says there is a political onslaught in the province aimed at unseating him from his position. He was reacting after the Hawks raided his offices and those of the provincial Finance Department in search of documents related to alleged irregularities. The Independent Electoral Commission, IEC, says preparations are in place for this weekend's voter registration and verification drive. The commission says it will open its more than 22 - thousand stations throughout the country from eight am to five pm on Saturday and Sunday. The long-awaited renewable power purchase agreements with 27 independent power projects will be signed on Tuesday next week. Energy Minister Jeff Radebe made the announcement in Parliment YESTERDAY.
