Gigaba had earlier said Atul Gupta was not a South African citizen. Atul was naturalised in 2002 and his brother Rajeesh in 2006.

Academic activities at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape continue to be disrupted as the Academic Professional Staff Association continues with its protest action. The association is calling for the in-sourcing of their members working for private companies at the institution. The institution has been marred by incidents of arson including clashes between a local private security company, the workers and students. Spokesperson of the Academic professional Staff Association, Thando Mxoli says at least one worker remains in a critical condition in hospital while a student was shot with a pellet gun in the leg..

One of the two suspects who appeared in the Ngcobo magistrate court on Monday afternoon will appear again today for rape, sexual exploitation and sexual grooming charges. Thirty year old Banele Mancoba, a senior member of the controversial Seven Angels Ministries church appeared in court on Monday afternoon alongside 29 year old Siphenathi Mafikwana for a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances. The repatriation of eight Zimbabwean children who've been kept at a place of safety in Rustenburg in the North West is set to take place today as scheduled. This follows the dismissal of an urgent application by the parents of the children who sought an order from the high court in Pretoria prohibiting officials from deporting the children back to the Zimbabwean capital, Harare. The children aged between 2 and 14 years were found undocumented in the back of a truck in Rustenburg last November. It is believed they were travelling to Cape Town to visit their parents for the Christmas holidays. Phumzile Mlangeni reports…

The School Governing Body at Eldorado Secondary School, south of Johannesburg has threatened a lockdown of the school if Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, suspends the school's principal. This follows weeks of disruptions to learning and teaching as teachers aligned to SADTU have abandoned their posts since late last year. Its alleged the teachers staged a walk-out after the SGB of the school allegedly refused to let SADTU continue to hold unauthorised union meetings on school premises without its permission. Civil Society group, Black Sash, is back in the Constitutional court today to argue the case for the uninterrupted payment of social grants next month. Black Sash will be represented in court by the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS). In March 2017‚ the Concourt suspended invalidity of the contract between the current service provider‚ Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) and SASSA‚ for a second time until 31 March 2018 to allow for the continuation of the payment of grants and to give SASSA time to appoint a new paymaster.
