Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle now has to respond to the damning Public Protector's report on the misappropriation of funds for former President Nelson Mandela's funeral in 2013. In the report released on Monday. Public Protector Busisiwe Mkwenane found that 300 million rand of public funds were misdirected and that civil action should be taken to recover the money from various Eastern Cape government agencies. Some of the funds were meant for the provision of running water, electricity sanitation, ablution facilities, replacement of mud-schools and refurbishing hospitals. The Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, found that the Eastern Cape provincial government improperly redirected about 300 million rand of public funds to pay for the funeral of former president Nelson Mandela. She found that some of the funds were meant for the provision of running water, electricity sanitation, ablution facilities, replacement of mud-schools and refurbishing hospitals. Suspended head of the Gauteng Health Department Dr Barney Selebano is expected to make his much-anticipated appearance at the Life Esidimeni Arbitration hearings in Parktown, Johannesburg today. This comes after the High Court in Johannesburg yesterday dismissed with costs his urgent application to set aside a subpoena ordering him to give evidence at the hearings. He then launched an urgent application for leave to appeal the judgment. It was also dismissed with costs. The SACP has condemned the violence from an ANC faction in the Metsimaholo Municipality in the Free State following the recent by-election.
