Parliament's Public Enterprises Committee has sought to push back against what it says are Minister Lynne Brown's attempts to intimidate it. The committee, which is conducting an inquiry into Eskom, rejected Brown's letter in which she complains about how it is doing its work. A deal has been proposed that dismissed former vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa should lead a transitional government that will be constituted of stakeholders from other political parties. President Robert Mugabe has been given an opportunity to negotiate an exit that includes state protection for him and his family. The two special envoys sent by President Jacob Zuma, as chairperson of SADC, to Zimbabwe held talks with stakeholders in Harare last night to chart a way forward for the country. The envoys, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Minister of State Security Bongani Bongo, arrived in Harare late yesterday. Zimbabwe's military has detained Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo after seizing power in an attempt to root out criminals around President Robert Mugabe. Chombo was a leading member of the so-called 'G40' faction of the ruling ZANU-PF party, led by Mugabe's wife Grace, that had been vying to succeed the 93-year-old president.
