The space for compromise over the 2015 Peace Agreement in South Sudan is narrow, while the parties to the conflict have shown little interest in engaging in serious negotiations on the way forward. Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has given the assurance that state pension funds will not be used recklessly to support ailing state companies such as the SAA. Gigaba addressed the media in Pretoria on Tuesday amid concerns that the Public Investment Corporation was under attack from those who wish to use its funds to bail out struggling state firms. The PIC manages close to two-trillion rand in state pension funds. Gigaba says he takes a very dim view of reports which, he says, drags his name through the mud, regarding allegations of attempted state capture concerning the PIC. Business is divided over its support for Wednesday's anti-corruption march by Cosatu. Business Leadership SA is the only formation that has fully endorsed the march. Business Unity South Africa and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry say they will not support the strike, but will respect their workers' right to protest. The family of a deputy principal who was shot and killed at Edlinceba Primary School in Duduza on Gauteng's East Rand have expressed shock. The suspects entered the school premises under the pretence that they had an appointment to fix an electric fault. As the deputy principal came out of his office enquire about their visit, he was shot several times and died on the scene. The motive for the attack is not yet know. Police are searching for four suspects in connection with the crime. Guateng Education MEC visited the school and the family on Monday. Wisani Makhubele has more.....

Schooling is expected to be affected in some parts of Johannesburg as COSATU embarks on a nationwide strike against corruption and state capture. Some teachers who are members of trade union SADTU have indicated that there will be no lessons at schools. Members of trade union NEHAWU have also confirmed that they will join the action. The main march will be held in Johannesburg where thousands of protesters are expected to walks to various institutions including government offices, the Chamber of Mines and banks.
