Limpopo police yesterday intercepted four vehicles that were being smuggled across the Limpopo river outside Musina into Zimbabwe . Police say the vehicles were either hijacked or stolen from various parts of South Africa. Over the past 12 months criminals have attempted to smuggle over 100 vehicles across the Limpopo. Twelve baboons have been rescued from the University of Free State following allegations that unethical research was to be conducted on them. The National Council of SPCA (NSPCA) salvaged the animals back into their natural terrain in Limpopo. Transport minister, Joe Maswangayi has directed law enforcement agencies to be on high alert after a spate of long weekend crashes claimed at least forty lives. Ten people were killed in Mpumalanga, seven in the Eastern Cape, four in KwaZulu-Natal and two people in Gauteng while deaths have also been reported in the Northern Cape. In Cepe Town, at least 40 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence with one driver in Caledon being over six times over the legal limit.
