President Jacob Zuma says the world needs political will to change the structure of the global economy In order to achieve sustainable development and inclusive growth. He was addressing the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York last night. The president also reiterated South Africa's call for the UN member states to dismantle their nuclear weapons and instead to use them for peaceful means.

Kenya's Supreme Court says it nullified last month's Presidential elections because the electoral commission announced unverified results before declaring President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner. In a detailed ruling released in Nairobi on Wednesday, the Supreme Court however said it did not find evidence of vote rigging and that any official of the electoral commission was criminally culpable for the illegalities and irregularities that led to the nullification of the polls. The court also said it did not find any offence committed by Kenyatta. Odinga has welcomed the ruling saying the people's vote must count.

Fruit growers in the Western Cape are crying foul as they are not benefiting from drought relief funding because the money is targeted at livestock farmers. The Provincial Minister of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde met with them yesterday to discuss drought relief measures. The ANC's legal battles over legitimacy of elective congresses are far from over. The party's members in the North West are planning to approach the court once again in a bid to nullify the 2015 Youth Lleague elective conference. The members argue that processes leading up to the conference were flawed. The pending legal action comes against the backdrop of last week's decision by the Pietermaritzburg High Court to set aside the KwaZulu-Natal 2015 provincial elective conference. In his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly, United States President Donald Trump has threatened to totally destroy North Korea while calling on righteous countries to confront the wicked few. The ANC in Kwa-Zulu-Natal and the Free State have welcomed the decision by the party to halt all provincial conferences. ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has written a letter to all provincial branches saying it has a deadline of September 30 to convene planned elective conferences. IFP National Chairperson, Blessed Gwala has told the Moerane Commission that all politically-motivated killings that have not been resolved must be investigated, including ones that took place before 2011. Gwala was testifying before the commission on behalf of the IFP. The Moerane Commission was established by KwaZulu-Natal premier Willis Mchunu to probe political killings in the province since 2011.
