The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has withdrawn from the Democratic Alliance (DA) led coalition in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. Upon hearing of the intension by PA to withdraw from the coalition, the Nelson Mandela Mayor Athol Trollip reacted on twitter saying that he will not be blackmailed by anybody or any party. Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe has likened United States President Donald Trump to the biblical Goliath who threatens the extinction of other countries. Former ANC MP Makhosi Khoza says she plans to focus on fighting corruption. Khoza resigned from the ruling party yesterday citing the ANC had become alien and corrupt. Speaking to SAFM Executive Producer, Krivani Pillay shortly after the announcement, Khoza says rot in the party is deep set.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa's (NERSA) has approved the consultative process for Eskom's 2018/19 revenue application or tariff increase. Eskom's multi-year price determination cycle will end on March the 31st 2018. The power utility has submitted a revenue application for the period April the first 2018 to March the 31st 2019. It is asking NERSA to grant it a 19-point-nine percent tariff increase for the 2018/19 period. This is a 14-point-three-billion-rand increase, up seven per cent from the previous year. Eskom says it expects to see increases in operating costs and therefore desperately needs the additional funding. Amina Accram reports
