Interim SABC board chairperson, Khanyisile Kweyama says the poublic broadcaster has handed investigations against former acting CEO, James Aguma over to the police's Special Investigating Unit. Aguma resigned yesterday. He was in the middle of a disciplinary hearing, which was suspended following his resignation. Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts has reacted with shock to Aguma's resignation before the conclusion of his disciplinary hearing. Scopa says it takes this as admission of guilt for the financial mess that the SABC finds itself in.

President Jacob Zuma has lashed out at the South African Communist Party for - what he terms - acting like an opposition political party. He was addressing an ANC's Cadres Forum during a Nelson Mandela Memorial Lecture at eMpangeni Hall on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast last night. Suspended SABC CEO James Aguma will now face five charges in his disciplinary hearing, after four more were added to the original one. Aguma's hearing got underway in Sandton, north of Johannesburg on Wednesday. The original charge was one of providing false information under oath, during the disciplinary hearing of the broadcaster's dismissal of COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng. Aguma's lawyer, Osborn Molatudi, tried to question the legality of the hearing. But this was dismissed by Professor Taki Madima, who is chairing the hearing. Metered taxi drivers have been protesting in Sandton, Johannesburg over the operations of Uber taxis, but they've also been accused of harassing and attacking Uber drivers . An Uber taxi driver died on Monday after his vehicle was burnt last month. Maswanganyi says they will amend the law to legalise Uber taxis, as they're currently operating illegally.

Zambian President Edgar Lungu has announced that he will engage with opposition parties with the aim of reducing political tension in that country. Lungu made the announcement in Lusaka after a meeting with the Catholic Bishops of Southern Africa. Lungu has long been criticised for silencing political opponents since the detention of opposition leader, Hichilema Hakainde on treason charges.

The South African Police Emergency employees intend to cripple the 10111 call centres countrywide as they embark on strike this morning after what they term as 'negative responses' to their demands for increased salaries. Genereal Secretary of the South African Policing Union, Oscar Skommere says salary levels of SAPS Call Centre workers are not on the same level as other government call centres, despite the 10111 service being the busiest emergency call centre. Workers downed tools a month ago over the same issue.
