Forensic pathologists Dr. Shakeera Holland and her counterpart, Professor Steve Naidoo, have testified at the inquest into the death of activist Ahmed Timol, that based on the pictures and evidence presented to them it was clear that most of the facial injuries and fractures Timol suffered could not have been caused by a fall as alleged. An inquest in 1972 ruled that the former anti-apartheid activist and South African Communist Party member's death in October 1971 was suicide. The School Governing Body at Klipspruit West Secondary School in Johannesburg has been disbanded. The school made headlines this week after parents disrupted schooling after a black principal was appointed, demanding that she be replaced by a coloured person. Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi met with the body on Wednesday and says further announcements on the principal and other matters will be made by the end of the week.

Eastern Cape police in Port Elizabeth are investigating a case of intimidation following alleged death threats against two DA councillors in Port Elizabeth. The two Nelson Mandela metro councillors are Chief Whip of Council, Werner Senekal and Mayoral Committee Member for Roads and Transport Rano Kayser. ANC MP Makhosi Khoza says she is scared to accept security because those assigned to protect her may wish to harm her.
