SACP General Secretary, Blade Nzimande, has warned that the ANC could be facing defeat in the 2019 national elections if strong action isn't taken against corruption and state capture. Nzimande yesterday addressed delegates at the start of the week-long SACP Congress currently underway in Boksburg on Gauteng's East Rand. The SACP leadership announced that it had barred President Jacob Zuma from addressing the congress. Instead Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will address them today.

Corruption Watch has confirmed that its founding board member and veteran trade union leader, Emma Mashinini, has died at the age of 87. Mashinini was the first General-Secretary of the Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers' Union in 1975. She co-founded the trade union federation, Cosatu, ten years later. Mashinini was at the fore-front of breaking racial job reservation; fighting for maternity and paternity rights; as well as ensuring a 40-hour working week. ANC structures in KwaZulu-Natal are calling on the party' senior leadership to remove outspoken party MP, Dr. Makhosi Khoza, from parliament. The SACP says Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the party's congress in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg on Wednesday. This after the communists asked the ANC not to send President Jacob Zuma to deliver a keynote speech. About 2-thousand-500 delegates have converged in Boksburg for the the SACP's 14th national congress.
