Corruption Watch has confirmed that its founding board member and veteran trade union leader, Emma Mashinini, has died at the age of 87. Mashinini was the first General-Secretary of the Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers' Union in 1975. She co-founded the trade union federation, Cosatu, ten years later. Mashinini was at the fore-front of breaking racial job reservation; fighting for maternity and paternity rights; as well as ensuring a 40-hour working week.
