President Jacob Zuma insists that white monopoly capital in South Africa exist- despite the ANC's decision to reject defining it a white monopoly capital but instead a monopoly capital without colour or racialising the issue. The controversial concept of "white monopoly capital" was rejected by the majority of ANC delegates at its national policy conference early this month. Delivering a Nelson Mandela Memorial lecture at Zolani sports centre in Nyanga East in the Cape Flats, organised by the ANC Youth League Dullah Omar Region last night-Zuma says those who say there is no white monopoly capital are not living in South Africa. He futher illustrated that South Africa had experience colonialism of a special type with unique features than other former colonised countries. Abongwe Kobokana filed this report.

Eskom has confirmed it will be paying multi-million-rand bonuses to current and former senior managers including axed CEO Brian Molefe. Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says they are paying the bonuses because people have met and exceeded their performances. Eskom earlier denied it was in financial dire straits and that it would be unable to pay salaries from November.

The search for eight missing fishermen off Cape St Francis in the Eastern Cape has resumed this morning. The fisherman went missing yesterday after their chokka vessel capsized. Snowfalls have been reported in various parts of the Western Cape. Temperatures have plummeted since the start of the weekend as a cold front made landfall. The SACP says it's 14th national congress resolution to contest elections independently is not a breakaway from the ANC-led tripartite alliance. The party is however concerned about the alliance in its present form and is also deeply concerned about its future. The SACP previously complained about being treated as a junior partner in the alliance as well as President Jacob Zuma's remaining in office as head of state. Dozens of young men in the Eastern Cape have returned home after undergoing the rite of passage to manhood at various initiation schools across the province. If there are no major incidents over the next couple of days, this will go down as one of the best circumcision seasons in the province in over a decade.
