Police say more than 50 people have been arrested in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, since protests erupted there earlier this week. They're facing charges of public violence, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property and theft. Some of the suspects will appear in court today. The protests over poor service delivery have since spread to nearby areas including Ennerdale.

The situation at Coligny in the North West remains tense with police still maintaining a high presence this morning. Clashes between police and residents continued into the late night. Residents want the bail of two local men accused of killing a 16 year old boy to be revoked. Learners in the Tlhabologang township remain trapped due to the ongoing violence while a few businessess started operating this morning.

The 2012 Lonmin Mine tragedy in Marikana where thirty-four miners were shot and killed by the police during an AMCU led wage increase strike has been dogging Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa. Since his weekend public regret of his comments prior to the shootings, survivors of the massacre have rejected Ramaphosa's apology. Attorney Andries Nkome, who represents the arrested and wounded miners, has described the apology, as "contemptuous and opportunistic". Ramaphosa says he will go to Marikana and address the workers as part of counselling.

Johannesburg's MMC for Housing, Mzobanzi Ntuli, says the Eldorado Park protest leaders who were to meet him today, are facing arrest for unrelated crimes. Ntuli was supposed to meet the aggrieved community leaders over their housing concerns. Residents of Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, engaged in day-long running battles with police, who constantly fired rubber bullets. Several shops were vandalized and looted. Seven people were arrested for public violence.

The R503 and N4 road linking Lichtenburg and Coligny and the N14 linking Coligny and Ventersdorp in the North West, have been opened for traffic. They were closed last night following violent protests. This, after residents in the area went on rampage yesterday after a local court granted bail to two men who allegedly killed a sixteen year old Matlhomola Mosweu three weeks ago. Mosweu was killed for allegedly stealing a sunflower at a farm.

The Gauteng Health Department has revealed that at least five more mental health patients have since died, from the time when the Health Ombud report was released in February. Gauteng Health MEC, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, briefed the media in Johannesburg on progress made in the implementation of the health ombudsman's report into the tragedy. She said 91 percent of patients have so far been relocated to suitably licensed facilities, while the remainder are not relocated due to what the department calls disputes or misunderstandings. The office of the President says President Jacob Zuma has accepted His Majesty Vha Venda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana 's proposal that the Vhembe District Municipality should provide services to the people of Vuwani while a solution on the demarcation issue is being sought. This was announced after Zuma met with the King and other stakeholders in Vuwani. Violence then broke out Nandoni sports ground after Zuma abandoned his address to thousands of residents who waited for him for the entire day. Three SABC News vehicles were stoned and windows smashed by an angry crowd who we demanding for Zuma to come and address them. Our reporter Rudzani Tshivhase reports.
