The Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate,IPID, Robert McBride, has accused Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane of waging a war against the directorate. According to McBride, Phahlane has spent thousands of rand in an attempt to have a search warrant at his house declared invalid. He says IPID has a tiny litigation budget while SAPS has huge resources in comparison. McBride appeared before Parliament's Police committee to discuss its budget. Zalene Merrington has more

The bail application of two North West men, accused of killing a sixteen year old boy in Coligny ,has been postponed to Friday for judgment. This is to allow both the state and the defence team to wrap-up their arguments, which were entirely centred on the evidence by the top police investigator in the case. Brigadier Clifford Kgalane testified today that the only state witness was captured by the accused and put in the back of the bakkie with the boy's body. The defence rejected this, while the state now wants to call another witness. Magistrate Makgaola Foso was reluctant to postpone the case

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba says over 300 cases of fraud and corruption valued at over 10-billion rand are under investigation. Over 90 employees have been suspended with three senior officials having resigned. Mashaba was presenting his inaugural State of the City Address.
