Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane has condemned the shooting of eleven cattle, allegedly by a commercial farmer in Kruisrivier near Uitenhage. He has described it as an insult. He visited the farm on which the cattle are kept and has met with the family. Nine cattle have died and the farmer is reported to have barred the owners from taking them, as Anda Nqonji reports

Judge Mabel Jansen has resigned with immediate effect. Jansen was placed on special leave last year following racist comments in which she expressed her belief that rape was part of black people's culture. The Judicial Conduct Committee was busy investigating complaints of racism against the Judge and she was apparently facing impeachment if found guilty. President Jacob Zuma has five working days to furnish the DA with documents containing the records and reasons for his decision to fire former finance minister Pravin Gordhan. Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas were fired together with four other ministers in March this year. The decision lead to South Africa's sovereign credit rating being downgraded to junk status by ratings agency Standard and Poor's. Phanuel Shuma compiled this report.

The Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate,IPID, Robert McBride, has accused Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane of waging a war against the directorate. According to McBride, Phahlane has spent thousands of rand in an attempt to have a search warrant at his house declared invalid. He says IPID has a tiny litigation budget while SAPS has huge resources in comparison. McBride appeared before Parliament's Police committee to discuss its budget. Zalene Merrington has more

Outgoing Eastern Cape DA leader, Athol Trollip's decision to bow out in his position has created a rigorous battle between a candidate perceived as his favourite and the sitting provincial chairperson. The hotly contested congress beginning today (5th May) in East London is between former COPE Youth President and DA Member of Parliament, Nqaba Banga and DA chairperson and caucus leader, Veliswa Mvenya.
