The ANC wants the public enterprises minister to reverse her decision to re-appoint Eskom chief executive Brian Molefe. Minister Lynne Brown has been reportedly summoned to appear at the ANC's headquarters today, to explain Friday's decision to re-appoint Molefe, which was heavily criticised by opposition parties and unions. Meanwhile COPE has warned Molefe not to report for duty this morning because he will be prevented from entering the utility's gate.

Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has given the technical team tasked with responding to housing protests, two weeks to verify the housing list database in the south of Johannesburg. The Minister, together with Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Paul Mashatile and Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, met yesterday in Soweto with the leadership of communities such as Eldorado Park, Ennerdale, Freedom Park and Kliptown about their housing concerns. The SACP has commended the ANC NEC for condemning the re-appointment of Eskom CEO Brian Molefe and the unilateral cabinet reshuffle by Northern Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas recently. SACP Deputy Secretary General Jeremy Cronin was addressing delegates at the Western Cape SACP Provincial Congress over the weekend. The Provincial SACP has meanwhile resolved to support a call on President Jacob Zuma to step down. Our Parliamentary Correspondent Mecerdes Besent tells us more.

President Jacob Zuma has described former AU Commission Chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma as one of the best ANC leaders who will undoubtedly do exceptionally well in whatever leadership position. Zuma was speaking during a church service in Bulwer on the KwaZulu-Natal midlands to welcome her back home after serving in the African Union. ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa says the alliance must be strengthened in order to protect the gains of the revolution. Ramaphosa delivered a key note address in Durban at the SADTU's provincial elective conference in KwaZulu/Natal. Ramaphosa emphasised the need for unity within the alliance. Protesters have stoned a number of vehicles between Orange Farm and the Grasmere Toll Plaza overnight on the Golden Highway, South of Johannesburg. There have been reports of a total shut down in all the protest hit southern Joburg townships. The violent protest started in Eldorado Park on Monday and it has since spread to Ennerdale, Orange Farm, Finetown and Klipspruit. They are demanding houses, land and better services. A Political Committee will be established to work with community structures in response to the recent protests in different parts of Gauteng. This is the resolution that emerged from a joint meeting of national and provincial departments that met yesterday to map out a strategy to end the violent protests in many parts of Gauteng. North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo, says his government is preparing what he called the best legal team, to have the bail application of two men in Coligny accused of killing a school boy, revoked. Mahumapelo who is set to visit the area today, also accused the magistrate on the case of being irrational.This is after the release of murder-accused, Pieter Doreeward and Phillip Schutte on bail - a decision that triggered violent protests.
