Fraud related to banking cards has seen an increase of 8 percent in the past year. Card fraud statistics released by the South African Banking Risk Information Centre, SABRIC, show that the amount recorded for fraudulent activities reached 717 million rand in 2016. The organisation says measures put in place by its members, positions the banking industry to tackle card fraud, but has conceded that the ever evolving sophistication of tactics used by criminals is of great concern.
