Amnesty International is calling for the immediate release of Zambia's main opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema, ahead of today's bail hearing. Hichilema and his colleagues were detained three weeks ago after they allegedly failed to give way to a Presidential convoy. Fraud related to banking cards has seen an increase of 8 percent in the past year. Card fraud statistics released by the South African Banking Risk Information Centre, SABRIC, show that the amount recorded for fraudulent activities reached 717 million rand in 2016. The organisation says measures put in place by its members, positions the banking industry to tackle card fraud, but has conceded that the ever evolving sophistication of tactics used by criminals is of great concern. The ANC and the African Independent Congress have adopted a memorandum of understanding that will regulate the coalition partnership between the two organizations. The two organizations have agreed on political cooperation in the national interest with specific reference to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Rustenburg Local Municipality, Umkhanyakude District Municipality and other municipalities where both parties have representation. The two parties met yesterday in pursuance of commitments made when they entered into a coalition agreement following the 2016 Local Government Elections in August 2016. Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, says the judiciary is always careful not to encroach on other arms of state. Mogoeng reacted to remarks made by some politicians that the country runs the risk of being a "juristocracy". He spoke to the media on the sidelines of the fourth Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa which is taking place in Cape Town. Justice Mogoeng also addressed perceptions that the Executive was not respecting court orders.

Cape Town High Court Judge, Siraj Desai, will hold an in loco inspection at the De Zalze Estate home of murder accused, Henri van Breda in Stellenbosch this morning. The 22-year-old Van Breda is accused of killing his parents and older brother at their home in January 2015. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
