Parliament is the latest institution to add its weight to the long list of voices condemning the break-in at the human resources wing of the Office of the Chief Justice in Midrand this past weekend. 15 computers containing sensitive information were stolen. Today, the lawyer representing the Minister of Police Nathi Nhleko, will file for an appeal against the decision to have the appointment of Berning Ntlemeza as Head of the Hawks set aside. This follows a ruling on Friday by the High Court in Pretoria which found that the appointment of Ntlemeza by the Minister was unlawful. Judge David Mabuse ruled that when the Minister appointed Ntlemeza, he ignored 2 court judgments which found that Ntlemeza lacked integrity and honesty. ANC secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe, says the ruling party is heading for a possible split ahead of the national conference in December if factional tendencies are not quickly dealt with.
