The Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema is expected to appear in Newcastle regional court this morning for allegedly breaking the Riotous Assemblies Act. The National Prosecuting Authority says Malema has been charged for inciting people to break the law, following repeated comments he made telling people to occupy empty land. The Public Protector's report on alleged state capture was released late last evening - finding a wide range of issues of concern and saying in its remedial action that President Jacob Zuma should appoint a judicial commission of inquiry within 30 days. The report goes on to say that the commission's findings should be presented to President Jacob Zuma within six months of the establishment of the commission. It also directs Treasury to provide adequate funding to the commission. The Public Protector's report notes among other things - its concern that Minister Des Van Rooyen can be placed at the Gupta family home in Saxonwold on seven occasions - including the day he was announced as the new Finance Minister in December 2015. The ANC may lose one of its support bases in rural areas, if the Congress of Traditional Leaders' threat to withdraw it support is anything to go by.
