ANC Treasurer-General Zweli Mkhize does not rule out the possibility of reconciling with party members who contested the August municipal elections as independent candidates and taking them back to the party. Mkhize met with party members in Phoenix west of Durban to listen to their concerns as part of a decision by the national leadership to visit all wards where the party's candidate selection process created tensions among party members. In Phoenix, the party lost seven wards and won only one ward, losing even the ward previously under party control. Vusi Makhosini reports

More than 200 families have been left destitute following a storm that hit eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The storm uprooted trees and powerlines in Kwaguqa and the surrounding areas. The Emalaheni Disaster Management Team is assessing the extent of the damage. The municipality has promised to provide the affected families with food parcels, blankets and shelter.
