A twenty-one-year-old Seneca man is bound over for trial in Crawford County Court after being accused of striking a three-month-old infant in the face during a domestic attack. State police say Brendan M. Shuffstall repeatedly punched a woman, struck her with a frying pan, and slapped the infant during a July thirteenth incident in Athens Township. Shuffstall faces felony charges of aggravated assault on a child.

National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation has announced a drop in natural gas supply charges. Lower wholesale market prices and previous overcollections will reduce the average residential bill by two dollars and seventy-five cents per month, effective immediately.

And in Cambridge Springs, Borough Council has approved more than sixty thousand dollars in material contracts to move forward with Phase Two of the Recreation Park project, which includes new pickleball and basketball courts.

A twenty-four-year-old Smithmill man has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison for a 2024 DUI crash that killed a retired Roman Catholic priest in Clearfield County. Nathaniel Robert Beers pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence in connection with the Cooper Township crash that killed eighty-one-year-old Robert Humenay. A judge sentenced Beers to serve twelve months minus one day to seven years in the Clearfield County Jail.

Traffic signal upgrades are coming to Elk County thanks to more than two hundred thousand dollars in state Green Light-Go grants announced by State Representative Mike Armanini. Ridgway Borough will receive over one hundred thousand dollars for modernizing signals along Main Street, while the City of St. Marys was awarded a similar amount to upgrade key intersections along South Saint Mary's and Washington Streets.

And summer community fun continues across the region, with the annual Clarion Summerfest getting underway today, featuring local entertainment and family activities.

A New Castle man has been sentenced to up to thirteen-and-a-half years in prison following a domestic violence conviction in Trumbull County. Thirty-three-year-old Justin Fry-Starrett was sentenced after a jury found him guilty of felony assault, domestic violence, and fleeing from police following a September 2025 attack in Liberty Township that left a woman injured.

In Butler County, a Pittsburgh woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer on the General Butler Bridge. Thirty-one-year-old Shawndia Devaughn was sentenced to five to twenty-three months in prison after attempting to strike an officer who responded to a call on the bridge back in March.

Over in Youngstown, police and child welfare officials are investigating after an eleven-year-old boy was rescued from a burning home where he was trapped inside a locked cage. The boy’s father claims the child locked himself in the dog cage while playing before the fire broke out, and that he had to break it open to get him to safety.

In a major announcement for local sports, professional women’s golf is returning to the Southern Tier. The LPGA and Corning Incorporated announced that after an eighteen-year absence, the long-running Corning tournament will return to the Corning Country Club in May 2027. Rebranded as "The Classic," the event will feature a five-million-dollar purse.

A Horseheads man has been sentenced to at least eighteen years in prison for the death of a three-year-old toddler. Twenty-eight-year-old Christopher M. Woods was sentenced to eighteen years to life in Chemung County Court following his guilty plea to second-degree murder in connection with the September 2025 death of Finn Hopkins.

And New York Republicans are renewing their federal lawsuit to block a state law requiring local county and town elections to be moved to even-numbered years. Eastchester Supervisor Anthony Colavita is among the new plaintiffs challenging the shift, arguing it drowns out local candidate messaging.

In Hornellsville, a local veteran and the Canisteo Valley Historical Society are teaming up on a campaign to complete a 136-year-old Civil War monument in Hope Cemetery. Project organizers are raising funds to engrave the names of roughly 180 local Union soldiers who fought, were wounded, or died in the conflict onto the monument's blank granite sides.

Over in Dansville, community members are preparing to celebrate the completion of the new Granūla Mural in downtown Dansville this Saturday morning. The public ceremony at the Sunrise Restaurant site will feature the unveiling of a new historical marker recognizing the area's historical connection to the creation of granola.

In Parkersburg, Community Bank held a ceremonial groundbreaking Wednesday for its new corporate headquarters at Eighth and Avery streets. Bank officials say the fifteen-million-dollar, twenty-two-thousand-square-foot facility will replace its historic Juliana Street location and is scheduled to open by the end of 2027.

Across the river in Belpre, the ninety-fourth annual Belpre Homecoming Festival kicks off today at Civitan Park. The four-day community event features rides, marketplace vendors, live entertainment, and pageants, concluding Sunday with praise and worship activities.

And in state politics, debate continues between Governor Patrick Morrisey and legislative leaders over the management of West Virginia’s TANF assistance program. Lawmakers questioned the administration's projected thirty-eight-million-dollar structural deficit, while Governor Morrisey defended his call for a comprehensive review to curb unauthorized spending.

In Monroe County, police report that a man found beaten unconscious inside his Greece home last week has died. Fifty-three-year-old Timothy Carlton succumbed to his injuries on Friday following an assault at his Wood Road home. Forty-six-year-old Shawn Warnick was previously arrested on felonious assault charges, and prosecutors say upgraded charges are expected.

In crime news out of Rochester, a fifty-nine-year-old man who was paroled in 2024 after serving twenty years in prison on a homicide conviction is back behind bars. Terry Manuel is accused of robbing the ESL Credit Union on North Goodman Street. Authorities arrested Manuel last Thursday when he arrived for a scheduled meeting with his parole officer.

Down in Westchester County, a forty-year-old drug dealer has been sentenced to more than twenty-four years in federal prison for selling fatal fentanyl. Federal prosecutors say Perry Freeman of Mohegan Lake continued dealing narcotics even after a 2021 overdose claimed the life of thirty-seven-year-old Brian Cobb. Freeman previously pleaded guilty to fentanyl distribution, drug conspiracy, and weapons charges.

In the Hudson Valley, state officials have awarded cybersecurity funding to protect municipal drinking water and wastewater systems from potential cyberattacks. Kingston will receive over one hundred fifty-nine thousand dollars, while Red Hook and the Dutchess County Water Authority were awarded additional state grants as part of a nine-million-dollar statewide initiative.

And over in Onondaga County, lawmakers voted along party lines to authorize potential litigation in an ongoing local dispute over county term limits. The vote grants the legislative majority authority to file a lawsuit, while a spokesperson for County Executive Ryan McMahon criticized the move, calling the potential legal action unnecessary and costly to taxpayers.

Federal disaster relief is officially on the way for hard-hit storm victims in Central West Virginia. Federal emergency officials and Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that President Donald Trump has approved four-and-a-half million dollars in expedited individual assistance for families in Lewis and Upshur counties. FEMA representatives are on the ground urging residents to register for aid following last month’s catastrophic flooding and tornadoes, while damage assessments in five additional counties remain under federal review.

Meanwhile, debate continues in Charleston over state assistance funding. Governor Morrisey defended his administration's review of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, raising concerns about potential waste and misuse within the state's school clothing voucher program. While legislative leaders continue to review budget figures surrounding an estimated thirty-eight million dollar structural deficit, state officials maintain that funding for essential family programs will remain stable through the fiscal year.

In college sports news, two West Virginia University men's basketball players have filed a lawsuit against the NCAA. The players are seeking an additional year of college eligibility, challenging current eligibility rules in federal court.

Up in Marion County, the former mayor of Worthington has taken steps to officially dissolve the town. Former mayor Debbie Helfin announced she is seeking municipal dissolution and asking state authorities to declare the town's failing sewer system distressed, citing a lack of local resources and community participation to maintain operations.

And in federal court, a thirty-seven-year-old Wheeling man has been sentenced to more than eleven years in prison. Roland Copney received a one-hundred-thirty-five-month sentence following a shots-fired investigation in Ohio County that led law enforcement to seize illegal narcotics and firearms.

           An elderly man is in the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in Allentown.  Police say the man was struck at 22nd and Hamilton streets near Cedar Beach Park Tuesday evening.  He reportedly suffered serious injuries.  Authorities are investigating.

           Two cases of measles are being reported in the Lehigh Valley.  The Allentown Health Bureau says two children in Lehigh County recently tested positive for the highly contagious disease.  The bureau noted both children were unvaccinated.  More than 170 measles cases have been reported in Pennsylvania as part of a nationwide outbreak.

             An 18-wheeler driver is receiving a citation for a crash in Union County that left five people injured.  State Police say a tractor-trailer driven by 51-year-old Jose Jimenez hit several parked vehicles in a construction zone on I-80 last week.  Troopers said Jimenez was "traveling too fast for conditions" and failed to notice the vehicles were stopped.  He was cited for speeding.

              State Police are filing prostitution charges against almost a dozen men in Lycoming County.  Troopers say 11 men are being charged in connection to a multi-month investigation into the Green Spa and Massage in Loyalsock Township.  Authorities said the men patronized "victims of sexual servitude."  Two women were arrested in June for allegedly "supervising" the brothel and prostituting themselves.

            An employee with Logan County Schools is accused of sharing child pornography.  Kentucky State Police arrested 25-year-old Austin Epley yesterday on a charge related to the distribution of inappropriate content involving minors.  The superintendent with Logan County School District did not name Epley, but he did say that an employee was arrested by KSP and that individual will not be allowed on school property until the criminal charges are resolved.  WNKY-TV reports Epley was working as the band director at the Adairville K through eight school.

              Kentucky State Police are investigating an inmate death at the McCracken County Regional Jail.  The West Kentucky Star reports inmate Brandon Bowman passed away earlier this week after being locked up on a contempt charge last Wednesday.  Jailer Stephen Carter tells the paper a preliminary investigation shows a medical incident led to the man's passing.  Bowman's body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

            The Kentucky Department for Public Health is sharing an update on the cyclosporiasis outbreak in the state.  Experts are investigating over 600 reported cases of the illness, with over 250 of those cases confirmed as of last week.  Hospitalizations caused by the parasite in Kentucky have gone up from seven to 24.  Jefferson County has the highest number of reported cases at 41, followed by Fayette County with 29.

            Kentucky lawmakers are considering whether delivery robots should be rolled out across the commonwealth.  A representative with DoorDash spoke with a legislative committee in Frankfort yesterday, telling officials the company wants to introduce robot and drone deliveries in the Bluegrass State.  Democratic Representative Anne Gay Donworth questioned the safety of having delivery robots on the road, saying she personally nearly hit one with a vehicle on the University of Kentucky campus.  The DoorDash spokesperson says their robots are monitored by humans who can take over control of them if they need to.

             A woman who had been missing from Frankfort for a couple of months is safe.  Kentucky State Police report 46-year-old Scarlett Sims met with troopers yesterday, telling them she had been staying with friends in Somerset.  KSP requested help from the public in finding Sims on Monday, saying her family had not seen her or heard from her since June 3rd.
