Another year, another RadioSEGA WinterFest and though Kevin’s working on something big for the holidays it’s not ready just yet. So we’re instead going to enjoy some appropriately wintery music from here, there and everywhere. But is ‘Big Chocolate’ gaslighting us as the chat is suggesting? Also there’s a competition for once!

With the usual time restrictions out of the way for a bit, Kevin is here once again to go over the news out of the Video Game Awards show and chill out with an extended show all about jazzy originals, remakes, remixes and reinterpretations of video game tracks.  So grab your trumpet, some mood lighting and add a bit of smoke to the air as we welcome Radio Redux’s jazz club.

Kevin’s been busy getting a much delayed and very intimate medical check and is trying to take it easy. He does however have left over spooky tracks from the Halloween show, so why not have some more before we enter the festive season? That and he tries to get himself up to speed on the Activision Blizzard situation –  and proceeds to wish he hadn’t.

For once Halloween falls on a Sunday! So Kevin gets the opportunity to dive six feet down into a pile of spooky video game tunes from all over the place! From Doki Doki Literature Club to Club Penguin. Then there’s the utter mess going on with the Nintendo 64 emulation on Switch, of course – and a scary story for SUMO Digital’s parent group.

Kevin never did discuss that Super Mario movie in the last episode, did he? Well there was kind of a reason for that.

Grab your ticket, soda of prodigious size and your bucket of popcorn and please take your seat for the next hour as Kevin goes through all manner of video game adaptions for the cinema screen. Prepare for a trip to Hong Kong, an encounter with Uwe Boll, a discussion on the difference between a ‘soundtrack’ and a ‘score’, as well as more than a few facts in this love note to the good, the bad and the ugly of turning bits into box office.

It’s another ‘live-to-tape’ edition of Radio Redux and Kevin’s really pulled this one out at the very last minute! After all there’s plenty to talk about, such as everything that’s happened at Nintendo Direct like Bayonetta 3 actually existing, Kirby getting a new game that totally wasn’t influenced by the global lockdown, Nintendo announcing when they will free Sakurai from his eternal Smash Bros. servitude and more. Not only that, but it turns out Kevin was in the credits to Sonic Colours Ultimate after all! 

That and the usual selection of cool tracks from and influenced by Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues, Offroad Thunder, Fall Guys, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Tetris Effect and Pistol Whip. Expanded to be longer than those originally broadcast. 

After ten years an ‘Ultimate’ rebuild of the popular Wii title Sonic Colours (or Colors if you really must) is here – and it’s a bit of a disaster with errors, glitches, save file corruptions and more. Enough to trigger the true Sonic Cycle beginning again – the Sonic community eating itself in rage/despair.

Kevin however is pretty chill on the subject, after all when you’re sitting on the side-lines watching it’s all quite entertaining! I mean, who knew we now had to chart all Sonic games on a plane between not just Classic and Modern… but Casual and Hardcore.

Wait, what?

Always nice when a country spends over $20 billion to give you a playlist – Kevin goes through some of the video game music tracks that were featured in the athlete’s parade at opening ceremony at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. That and he’s gone and won a medal himself, and all it cost him was full use of his ankle. Ouch.

Following a frantic June which saw him not only move house but have to be carted off in an ambulance to hospital for a stay after an nasty infection ravaged his insides and tried to make them become his outsides, Kevin returns to Radio Redux with a new show focusing focusing on hospital/medical games. Oh, and maybe to talk a bit about Steam Deck and Sonic Origins too.

RadioSEGA’s Opposite Week is now the ‘Summer Shakeup’, here to shuffle the hosts of all your favourite shows and it’s sent Kevin off to host The Hidden Palace! So who will host Radio Redux in his stead? Well, after worrying about being pre-empted by Radio Redux since it’s return, it’s now Rexy’s turn to run the titles in a frenetic live show that may just end up featuring a remix… or two.
