The wait is finally over. The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast has returned, this time with the long awaited episode about the Bureau of Military Information. In this episode, Bill and Steve, give the B.M.I. a unique deep dive as they cover the creation of the B.M.I. following Hooker's assumption of command of the Army of the Potomac in January 1863. A brief overview of the organization of the B.M.I. is followed by a short biography of it's commander, George Sharpe. Then, Bill and Steve, break down how the B.M.I. assembled it's intelligence through signals, open source and human intelligence gathering. If you wanted to learn more about the "how" and "why" behind the B.M.I. and not just what is written in books, then this is the episode for you. We hope you enjoy this episode and hope you learn something new about the B.M.I. Again, we thank everyone for their continued support! Thank you for listening!

The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast has returned with yet another episode from the ORs. In this episode, Bill and Steve discuss the importance of the Shenandoah Valley during the Civil War from a strategic and logistical level. This episode is a "broad stroke" view of the Shenandoah Valley and does not specifically focus on any one specific period of time during the Civil War. This episode is meant to serve as a "gateway" episode to follow-on episodes about the campaigns, battles and skirmishes that were fought in the region from 1861 through 1865. We thank you for listening and for your support and we hope to have shed some light on the "why" behind the Shenandoah Valley with our unique perspectives.

The wait is over! The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast has returned after a one week delay, this time with another episode from the "After Action Review" Series. Don't worry, the Shenandoah Valley episode is coming. In this episode, Bill, Ty and Steve discuss the Bureau of Military Information's (not to be confused with the Bureau of Militiary Information - maybe an inside joke, ask Bill) first max effort event of 2024 which was the Civil War Weekend (Federal Only) hosted by the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum in Lancaster, PA. The BMI utilized this event to onboard two of its newest members in preparation for 2024's big event, the 160th Anniversary of Cedar Creek in October. The weekend was a busy weekend ripe with flight delays (thanks Southwest Airlines), medical emergencies (not our own), drill, mounted cavalry demonstrations and of course a night scout. We hope you enjoy this After Action Review episode and as always, we greatly appreciate all of your support! Thank you for listening and stand-by for the Shenandoah Valley episode! Always Forward!

The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast returns with another episode from the ORs. In this episode, Bill and Steve, discuss the perplexing "why" behind Harpers Ferry. If you have visited Harpers Ferry or looked at it through pictures, at some point you likely asked yourself WHY an arsenal / armory / fort was placed in such a horrible position to be defended. Hopefully this episode will help shed some light on the WHY behind Harpers Ferry. From the decision of George Washington to place an armory / arsenal there because of the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers to the establishment of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroads, Harpers Ferry became a crucial inland logistical supply hub with the capability of supplying the northeastern region. The only other large scale armory / arsenal at that time being located in Massachusetts. Harpers Ferry was essentially created without the forethought of a Civil War dividing the region nearly 70 years later. While Harpers Ferry could in fact be its own specific series, Bill and Steve stick to the facts in a concise timeline and cover the importance of Harpers Ferry during the Civil War as a lead in to the follow on episode covering the importance of the Shenandoah Valley. Again, we thank each and every one of you for continued support of the podcast and the Gettysburg Guard and hopefully you walk away from this episode with a better understanding of the WHY behind Harpers Ferry. Always Forward!

The ORs have returned with yet another episode, this one to cap off our coverage of the Battle of Gettysburg as we head into the 161st Anniversary. For this episode Bill and Steve deep dive into the combat action of the 2nd US Sharpshooters as they are engaged on July 2nd. Some specific aspects about the weather during the march on July 1st are discussed due its potential affect on the combat effectiveness of the 2nd US Sharpshooters on July 2nd. Bill and Steve utilize first hand accounts, reports from the Original Records, and correspondence between leaders of the opposing units to tell a tale not often looked at; the 2nd US Sharpshooters' influence on the battle on the Union left. You might be shocked to learn that Colonel William Oates (15th Alabama) credits the 2nd US Sharpshooters as saving the Union left, not the 20th Maine. Bill and Steve also rabbit hole a theory about the potential wounding location of Confederate Major General John Bell Hood. We hope you enjoy this often overlooked topic about the fighting on the Union left at Gettysburg. Again, we thank you for support. Always Forward!

The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast returns with another episode from the ORs but with something significant and special. The ROTC Podcast welcomes it's first ever special guest. And guest #1 of 1 is none other than the man, the myth, and the legend; Jim Hessler. One cannot have a conversation about Major General Dan Sickles at Gettysburg without referencing Jim's extraordinary life work on the topic and Bill and Steve were honored to have Jim as the ROTC Podcast's first ever special guest. In this episode Jim, Bill and Steve discuss Dan Sickles the man before the outbreak of the Civil War before discussing some of his experience during the Civil War as he rises through the ranks to become a Major General and commander of the III Corps of the Army of the Potomac. Once Sickles' background is discussed, Jim, Bill and Steve dive into the circumstances that are occurring in the morning and early afternoon of July 2nd that ultimately lead to the decision to move the III Corps out to the Emmitsburg Road. Jim gives us the cliff notes about the fight that occurs on the afternoon of July 2nd before the episode closes with a brief discussion about Sickles post-Gettysburg. The Gettysburg Guard and the ROTC Podcast would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Jim for being the first guest on the podcast. The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast returns with yet another episode from the ORs, this one focusing on the events surrounding April 14th, 1865 and how they pertain to the events in and around Washington D.C. The episode steers away from the conspiracies and examines the facts, including a series of small events that all intertwine themselves in what will become the assassination of the 16th President of the United States. A follow-on episode will eventually be released that covers more detail about the conspirators, their apprehension, the subsequent military tribunal and the fallout that occurs from the assassination. We hope you enjoy this episode as we attempt to shed light on some of the often overlooked crucial details of the assassination as it gets mythicized with creative license often taken in the mainstream media when the story is told. Again, we thank you for your continued support and we thank you for listening!
