Welcome to Episode 2 of Season 2, 'Year of the Tiger'. This is a quick overview about your role in leading wellbeing. It derives from a popular video I originally published several months ago on my YouTube channel, which Spotify listeners can also now watch. For other podcasting platforms, it will present to you just the audio version. Either way, I hope you find it helpful content. It's a brief podcast, but here's how one viewer described it after watching the episode on my YouTube channel: "I’ve watched this video 3 times now. Once to listen, once to digest and think through and once to make notes. Awesome video Steve as always."
This video podcast feature is a new functionality available to me on my podcast, so this is just testing it out. I hope it's useful to providing bonus content on here, particularly for those of you who prefer audio or otherwise don't use my YouTube content. While trialling the feature, I'll be restricting such episodes to just those videos over 10 minutes long (I believe anything below this is too short for the podcast format), so there's minimal repetition for those of you who also follow my YouTube channel. Welcome to the final podcast of Season 1, 'Year of the Ox'. Episode 21 (26 mins) is a relatively short podcast, discussing how you can master your memory with mnemonics. This compliments my short recent blog on the same subject, but here I provide supplementary information and of course something you can listen to while doing other things! Welcome to podcast Season 1 Episode 18. Sorry for the wait since last time! I recorded this new episode (34 mins) in light of it being both CPD week with the College of Policing and some reflections having participated in the #WeCops discussion on CPD last night. I discuss the importance of CPD as part of your police promotion prep, while also recognising it as a key competency within the CVF.
'We Take Ownership' describes the fact it should be a given that Sergeants and the Inspecting ranks should have their own development in hand (Level 1). At Level 2, it points out the focus being taking ownership for the CPD of your teams as a leader. With your own CPD, I like to emphasise it is not just professional development, but it is also important to consider your PERSONAL development. September 21, 2021 Episode 1.15: Interview With Former Met Commander, Simon Foy QPM
Welcome to podcast Season 1 Episode 15. In this episode I had the privilege of interviewing Simon Foy QPM as my first podcast guest, a former Metropolitan Police Commander with a rich and varied policing career across many ranks (59 mins). Simon kindly agreed to share some of his insights, thoughts and reflections around the subject of converting UK police leadership aspiration into promotion success.
With a 30+ year police career, including leading the Metropolitan Police Homicide Command and receiving the Queens Police Medal in 2009 for distinguished service to policing, Simon kindly agreed to share his views around the topic of promotion in the police service. He provides some great tips for those aspiring to progress their careers via promotions or simply want to develop their leadership skills. In our conversation. Simon answers questions on police leadership, achieving promotions, observations on the jumps between ranks (including the biggest jump) and the value of police promotion assessments and interviews. Diversity, Equality and inclusion, learning from setbacks, and wider reflections about what it means to be a leader all feature in this podcast. I particularly liked his summary of three key points to success: Know yourself, learn from experience, and prepare properly.
