Franklin De Costa has flown mainly under the radar for a long time now, but he’s long been a favourite of electronic music fans who love to delve a little deeper. Hailing from Berlin, he’s been releasing music under a variety of monikers for well over a decade and he’s always charted his own course. Alongside his production work, Franklin also promotes the Mothers Finest night where he’s been able to continue to push the weirder, more non-conformist corners of techno and bass music. With the likes of Hodge as a resident and acts such as DJ Bone, Laurel Halo, and Machine Woman amongst his bookings you can see that they like to follow the path less trodden.

With a new Mudkid album coming soon, and the 5th Birthday celebrations for Mothers Finest fast approaching, I caught up with Franklin over skype on a chilly Sunday afternoon. We had a broad ranging chat covering berlin winters, his creative process and how social media is changing the way the electronic music scene exists, for better and for worse.

As if by chance, we stumbled across the path of C. Diab and it was meant to be. The Vancouver based musician is perhaps one of the most definitive yet unsung heroes of modern day ambient and eclecticism. His dream like soundscapes are the stuff of magic, his music whimsical and transcendent. As a bowed guitarist and trumpeter he has captured the essence of both abstract pain and beauty in equal measure, his music has been received to critical acclaim both far and wide. It is hard to definie the musical association by which it might be best to place him alongside, perhaps that's part of the bauty in itself.

We invited him to contribute to our Monday mix series and he returned his results overnight. A beautiful way to start the week...

Colin's latest alias first emerged back in 2016 before going on to release two strong, singular EP's on both Phonica White and Futureboogie. His music is a subtle blend of colourful house, layered with percussion and intricate samples which send us back to the nostalgic days of Chicago and bygone dancefloors. As a disc jockey he is well versed, he is able to draw upon a wealth of experience and knowledge learnt across a fruitful career which has seen him travel and play at clubs around the world. A familiar face to some, a new candidate for others, Austin Ato is one to watch as he breathes new life.

We are delighted to welcome him to our expansive mix series ahead of his appearance at Love Saves The Day later this year.

London is awash with parties, promoters and peddlers. Only the very best rise to the top amidst an increasingly saturated market, it requires individuality, a sense of understanding and ultimately it requires skill. commune has been run by Josh Thomas and Will Edge (alongside Alex Powis and James Rice) for four years now and has played host to an array of guests, however, more recently the pair have adopted the guise as disc jockeys in their own right and have taken the name further than ever before. With a regular show on Balamii they have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the booth. This amidst running events, which includes club nights to film screenings, ensures they stay agile and at the very forefront of dance music and culture in the capital. Oh, and they have a studio too.

We invited Josh and Will aka Noah Hope and Billson, to contribute to our mix series as we showcase their talent and talk shop.

Trux is a mysterious persona who has revealed virtually nothing as to his background or roots. The music speaks for itself, a mini LP on Office Recordings emerged back in 2016 and received a nod of the head from the wider electronic music community. A cult classic of sorts with an oddball edge. Now two years ago later Trux is back, a new release and a new channel.
