While you’re listening to the original Sunday night broadcast of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records, I’m actually in Vermont, attending a family reunion. So in the first segment of the show, you’ll hear some tunes about Vermont. Among other things such as Vermont cheddar cheese and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Vermont is famous for maple syrup. In the second segment of the show we’ll have records about syrup and maple trees, including the song pictured in the sheet music above. The family reunion revolves around the “Beanpot” so the third segment of the show is all about beans, beans and more beans. We’ll also be celebrating the birthdays of George Graff and Peter Packay. In the third segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records, we’re going to take a musical trip to St. Louis, Missouri, and hear the song in the sheet music above.  Most recordings of Saint Louis Blues are instrumentals, but we’ll hear a vocal version by Al Bernard. That is, right after getting back from our musical trip to Belgium in the second segment.  I ran out of time to play a record in last week’s segment about drinking, so it starts off the fourth segment this week, not about drinking, but about elephants! So why is there a birthday cake pictured above instead of a vintage composer or artist? This week is a special edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. Not that they aren’t *all* special, but this one is *VERY* special because it’s our 21ST ANNIVERSARY SHOW! The first RRR broadcast was July 26, 2000 and we’ve been here on KISL ever since. The first segment of the show will be a birthday celebration with records about being 21. And what can you do when you’re 21? That’s right! Drink and gamble! So there will be songs about those activities, both in moderation, of course! In addition to the show’s birthday, we’ll also be celebrating the birthday of Guy Wood. And in the final segment we’ll play a record which was supposed to be played last week, but this week will lead off a segment about castles. The idea of daylight saving time (NOT daylight savingS time!) goes back to New Zealand in the 1800s.  There have been campaigns for and against is ever since. In the third segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records, you’ll hear a song that was written specifically to oppose Proposition 7 on the California ballot in 1930 and find out the story behind it. In the first segment of the show we’ll do some “crowing,” and in the second segment, we’ll celebrate Bert Van Cleve’s birthday. In the fourth segment we’ll have some song about asses (as in donkeys!). It’s xylophonist Lou Chiha, who went by the professional name “Frisco.” Listen to the second segment of this week’s show and you’ll find how he came to use that name.  In the first segment, we’ll clarify a statement made on last week’s show and have a set of rapidly rotating records about boarding houses. This week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records starts off with a first time birthday salute to Al Donahue, who made headlines with his 1933 marriage.  You’ll find out why in the first segment. In the second segment of the show you’ll hear three records *by* and one record *about* Irish tenor John McCormack. The third segment is devoted to lyricist Neville Fleeson, also getting a birthday salute for the first time. I don’t normally play records from the 1940s, but Fleeson wrote a most unusual song, recorded by Nan Blackstone (BlaKstone).
