The post Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 22 May 2011 (part 2) appeared first on Glenn Robison's Rapidly Rotating 78 RPM Records.
Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
Tonight we’re live right here in the KISL studio in the greenhouse in Avalon Park, and for the next two hours, we’re gonna do some wandering, celebrate the birthdays of Grant Clarke, Fats Waller and Henry Busse, play some wrap music, play some records for no particular reason whatsoever, and for the last two segments of the show we’re just gonna go wild. And who knows what else may happen.
Enjoy the show!
Here’s the complete playlist:
Segment 1: Perigrinate
If you were listening to the show about 3 years ago, you’ll remember that we did a segment on wandering inspired by the vocabulary word PERIGRINATE, an intransitive verb meaning to wander from place to place, especially on foot. Well this week, we’re going to do some more perigrinating
Wandering In Dreamland – Ted Lewis and His Band
Wanderin’ – Vernon Dalhart
Like The Wandering Minstrel (w) – The Cavaliers (Ben Selvin) / Williams A. Kennedy, v.
Wandering On To Avalon – Regent Dance Orchestra / Tom Barratt, v.
Segment 2: Henry Busse
May 19 marked the birth in Magdeburg, Germany in 1894 of Henry Busse.
The Monkey Doodle-Doo – Busse’s Buzzards
One Step To Heaven – Henry Busse Orch / The Four Recorders, v.
Mary Jane – HBO / Richard Barry – Tony Mastroni / Don Borden, v.
Milenberg Joys – Busse’s Buzzards
Segment 3: Grant Clarke
May 14 marked the birth in 1891 in Akron, Ohio, of lyricist Grant Clarke. He wrote more than 100 songs, including these:
Wishing And Waiting For Love – Nat Shilkret and Victor Orch / Belle Mann, v.
Let Me Have My Dreams – Alfredo and His Band / Les Allen, Eddie Grossbart, Hal Swain
Am I Blue? – The New Englanders / Annette Hanshaw, v.
Nobody Cares If I’m Blue – Ted Wallace AHO / Elmer Feldkamp & Unknown, v.
Segment 4: Some Raps
I like to think I have fairly eclectic musical tastes, but I’m going to make no apology for the fact that I have no use whatsoever for modern rap music. Vintage “wrap” music, however, is a completely different thing.
Symphonic Raps – Carroll Dickerson’s Savoyagers
Wrappin’ It Up – Fletcher Henderson AHO
Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams – Mildred Bailey
I Wanna Wrap You Up – Blue Barrron AHO
Tune in to Part 2

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
On this evening’s show we’re gonna take a dip, take a musical trip to St. Louis, bring some joy to your otherwise dull, drab life, we’ll wake you up, and put you to sleep.
Enjoy the show!
Here’s the complete playlist:
Segment 1: Wake Up
Last week we celebrated Billy Cotton’s birthday, but I didn’t mention that he would start his shows by shouting “Wakey Wakey”.
Don’t Wake Me Up, Let Me Dream – Howard Lanin and His Ben Franklin Dance Orchestra
When The Morning Glories Wake Up In The Morning – Jacques Renard and His Coconut Grove Orchestra / Johnny Marvin, v.
You’re Gonna Wake Some Morning – Ethel Finney
Segment 2: Joyful
The next three segments are the result of a request from listener Bob. There are three different topics, but there is a common thread… can you work out what it is?
Monte Carlo Joys – Gus C. Edwards Orchestra
Milenburg Joys – Ted Lewis AHO
I’ve Got The Joys – Lanin’s Southern Serenaders
Harlem Joys – Willie “The Lion” Smith and His Cubs
Segment 3: Dip
Papa Dip – New Orleans Wanderers
Dip Your Brush In The Sunshine – Ted Lewis and His Band / Ted Lewis, v.
Whale Dip – Blue Ribbon Syncopators
Segment 4: St. Louis
St. Louis Bound – Kansas City Tin Roof Stompers
St. Louis Shuffle – Fletcher Henderson’s Orchestra
St. Louis Gal – Original Indiana Five
New St. Louis Blues – Ted Lewis and His Band
And you’ve probably figured out that the common thread in the last three segments was Ted Lewis, and three songs which were requested by listener Bob.
Segment 5: Sleep
We started the show with a segment about waking up, so here to wrap up the show is a segment about sleep.
Sleep, Baby Sleep – Edwin J. McEnelly’s Orchestra / Elliott Shaw, v.
Dancing In Your Sleep – Ray Starita and His Ambassadors Band / Maurice Elwin, v.
Gosh Darn – Sleepy Hall and His Collegians / Bill Coty, Harold Van Emburgh, v.
