We May Be Different, But We Are Not Less
Recovery brings together people from every kind of background, personality, belief system, and life experience. We may not think alike, look alike, vote alike, worship alike, or have the same story—but none of those differences make one person more valuable than another.
Today we’ll talk about how recovery gives us common ground without requiring us to become the same, why identification matters more than comparison, and how respect allows people with very different lives to still walk the same road together.
Different does not mean less. It just means different.

Deep Resentment Leads To Futility And Unhappiness
The Big Book warns us that deep resentment leads only to futility and unhappiness. That does not mean we were never hurt, mistreated, or given legitimate reasons to be angry. It means that carrying those injuries long after they happen can begin damaging us more than the original event.
Today we’ll talk about what resentment does to our thinking, how easily we can keep feeding the same story, and why recovery asks us to find a way forward instead of allowing anger and bitterness to keep controlling our lives.
We may not be able to change what happened—but we can decide how much of today we are still going to give to it.

Why Help People Anyway?
Helping people sounds simple until the person we help disappoints us, criticizes us, misunderstands us, or gives us absolutely nothing back.
Today we’ll talk about why we help in the first place, what happens when expectations get mixed into service, and how we can continue being useful without letting other people’s behavior control our serenity. We’ll also talk about the vulnerability that comes with putting ourselves out there publicly—because helping people does not mean we stop being human or stop having reactions when things hurt.
We can have boundaries. We can step away when necessary. And we can still choose to help because that is the kind of person we want to be.

Least Possible Organization?
Alcoholics Anonymous has always tried to walk an unusual line: enough organization to get the work done, but not so much organization that people begin governing one another.
Today we’ll talk about the idea of the least possible organization—why AA needs groups, committees, service positions, and structure, while still protecting itself from bosses, unnecessary rules, control, and authority over individual members.
The question is not whether we need organization. It is: How much structure actually serves the purpose—and when does the structure start becoming the purpose?

What Does ChatGPT Think The Daily Trudge Is?
After spending a long time helping me build topics, descriptions, outlines, thumbnails, and conversations around The Daily Trudge, I thought it would be interesting to turn the question around:
What does ChatGPT think The Daily Trudge actually is?
Today I’m going to hear that answer fresh, right along with everyone else. We’ll look at what themes keep showing up, what seems to make The Daily Trudge different, how recovery fits into it, and what this show appears to be becoming over time.
This should be interesting—because for once, I’m not the one defining it.

Expectations Are Aligned With Our Serenity
Expectations can quietly become one of the biggest sources of frustration in recovery. We decide how people should act, how situations should turn out, how quickly things should happen, and what life is supposed to give us—and then lose our serenity when reality does not follow the plan.
Today we’ll talk about how expectations affect our peace, how the Serenity Prayer helps us separate what we can change from what we cannot, and why right-sizing our expectations can help us live more comfortably in reality instead of constantly fighting it.
The more our expectations line up with what is actually ours to control, the more room we make for serenity.

We Made Direct Amends
Making direct amends is more than saying we’re sorry. It means facing the harm we caused, taking responsibility for our part, and doing what we can to repair the damage without creating more harm in the process.
Today we’ll talk about what direct amends actually look like, why changed behavior matters, and how making things right can become part of rebuilding trust, relationships, and our own integrity.

Two Kinds of Pride
Pride is usually talked about as something dangerous in recovery—and it certainly can be. Self-centered pride can keep us defensive, dishonest, unwilling to listen, and convinced that we have to prove ourselves.
But there is another kind of pride: the kind that comes from doing the right thing, keeping our word, taking responsibility, helping others, and becoming someone we can respect.
Today we’ll talk about the difference between pride that tears us down and pride that helps build character, humility, service, and a better way of living.

We Must Be Neutral To Alcohol
The Big Book describes a point in recovery where alcohol no longer has to dominate our thinking. We are not spending our lives fighting it, fearing it, or constantly trying to prove that we can stay away from it. Instead, we begin to experience what the book calls a position of neutrality—safe and protected.
Today we’ll talk about what that neutrality actually means, how it differs from simply avoiding alcohol through willpower, and why the goal of recovery is not to spend the rest of our lives obsessed with not drinking.
Alcohol does not have to become our enemy. Recovery can bring us to a place where it simply no longer runs our lives.

Why Do We Have To Have Everything Right Now?
Alcoholism trained many of us to look for relief right now. If we were uncomfortable, we wanted the feeling changed. If we wanted something, we wanted it immediately. If life was not moving fast enough, we tried to force it.
Recovery teaches us something very different. Some things take time. Relationships rebuild slowly. Trust returns through consistent behavior. The Steps unfold through action. Spiritual growth develops over time. And sometimes the answer is simply that we have done what we can do today and the rest is not ready yet.
Today we’ll talk about instant gratification, delayed gratification, and learning how to live without demanding that life give us everything on our timetable.
