When I was a teenager, I owned 8 movies. I would watch each of them over and over and over again, ruining people’s lives with my endless quoting. This is one of those movies.
Recently over breakfast (that I paid for) I realized that Sean and Shane love this movie as well but hadn’t watched it in a while. So we roped in Anthony Lopez, who admires the way the film is lit, and the four of us discussed every great actor and every great line in this pretty incredible film.
1984 popped back onto everybody’s radar after the election. We dive back to our high school reading list to see what lessons we can learn for today.
Plus we have dystopia-aficionado Amanda Leinbaugh and comedian Nariko Ott here to help us break down Big Brother and to discuss what scary thing would be strapped to our faces.
Alex has been on tour across Ontario for the last couple weeks, so he put together a special panel of comedians he was working with to talk about the distinctly Canadian, Degrassi: The Next Generation. It’s got a little baby Drake in it!
And as you’d expect with a very special episode like this, it got pretty serious in the middle.
We’re talking space again!
The quest for happiness continues as Alex enrolls a couple funny nerds to talk about season 2 of the SyFy Channel’s adaptation of The Expanse, his favorite science fiction series.
It’s completely excellent and also gives us the chance to talk about what it’d be like to have sex in micro gravity (or macro gravity, if you’re into that kind of thing).
And because one of our guests, Angela, knows the authors of the book series, we are EXTREMELY RESPECTFUL AND SELF CONSCIOUS.
It’s Oscar season and this year’s heavy favorite is the original movie musical, La La Land. We’ve got a big ol’ pile of conflicting feelings about it, including a hole lot of saltiness about the writer/director being younger than us.
But we manage a pretty fair, far-ranging conversation from “what they did with color theory is amazing” to “WHAT WAS THAT DESSERT???” Hope you enjoy!
Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are back to continue their training video on what an abusive relationship looks like. They have sex and fight and have sex and fight and have sex and a helicopter crashes and then get engaged. They also have sex at a party and don’t wash their hands before returning to the party. It’s the worst thing.
It’s a super bummer, but Chris and Tanya are stepping down as regular hosts (don’t worry, they’ll be back as guests from time to time) because they’re adults with real lives. But before they do, the team is all here for ONE LAST JOB.
Hopefully, unlike the movie Heat, the Smiths won’t kill a bunch of civilians in a shootout in the middle of the street and be super shitty to women all the time.
This Pope is young. I mean, not super young. He’s not Kid Pope or anything. Actually, hang on just a second I just had an idea I need to go pitch to a couple networks.
…
Whew, I’m back. Kid Pope was already in development from on another writer.
Anyway, Jude Law is a young pope and nobody can figure out what he’s thinking, not even us. Is he cool like Cool Pope? Is he lame like most other popes? Does he drink Cherry Coke Zero for a reason or is that just awkward product placement? We try to figure all this out in today’s episode!
We’ve loved Sherlock since the beginning, but there have been occasional moments of doubt. Season 4 has gotten some doubt-filled reviews, so we jumped in not entirely sure what to expect.
An expert panel never before assembled, we talk about which parts of Sherlock Season 4 stand up to scrutiny and which aren’t. And one podcaster isn’t as synical as they seem.
It’s the movie that lost Paramount over $100 million before they even released it!
It’s the movie pitched by a 4-year-old!
It’s the movie that terrified the test audiences and had to be almost completely re-shot.
It’s Monster Trucks!
It’s also a movie with a decent cast that isn’t used very well and a couple of genuinely funny moments, though not enough to save it. But if you go in with low enough expectations you might actually be able to enjoy it.
