  • Getting Golf Ready with Coach Doug Lawrie (RG40)

We kick off this week’s episode by breaking down all of the action from this weekend’s thrilling The Match: Champions for Charity. The event absolutely nailed it and provided one of the most entertaining afternoons of golf that we can remember. The guys talk about the course, the players, and highlight and some of the most memorable moments from a great afternoon of made-for-TV golf.

Then, Brent sits down with Coach Doug Lawrie, founder of the Focus Golf Group. Doug is a highly accomplished junior coach with a list of credentials too long to include in these shownotes. Doug gives us some great tips and some very basic things you can do from home to prep yourself for golf season. We look forward to having Coach Doug back on the pod throughout the 2020 season.

Until then, you can learn more by visiting Focusgolfgroup.com. Coach Doug is also a must-follow on Instagram at @focusgolfgroup for tips and plenty of game inspiration.

  • "Happy Welcome Back Golf Week!" (RG39)

Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve finally made it! Golf is officially back across the country, with courses opening for the 2020 season last Saturday here in Ontario. In this week’s episode, John and Eric share their experiences playing their first rounds of the year and talk about the modifications they faced when teeing it up for the first time.

Now that golfers all over Canada are getting back out there, Brent sat down for a conversation with Ryan Goodridge, Senior Club Fitting Analyst at the Titleist National Fitting Centre, located in Maple, Ontario. Ryan gives us some tips on how to re-evaluate your bag as you head out for the season, sheds a bit of insight on some gaps that many people may have in their setups, and takes us through the club fitting process. We definitely look forward to having Ryan back throughout the summer for some deeper dives into specific clubs and club fitting questions.

Not only is golf back in our own lives, but the first semblance of professional golf returned to our screens on Sunday afternoon with the TaylorMade Driving Relief skins game. Though there was definitely plenty of room for improvement, the guys break down the good and bad of what was undoubtably a successful event. We also close out the episode with a short preview of The Match: Champions for Charity which is coming up on Sunday, May 24th.

Click here to learn more about club fitting and to book your own session with Ryan and the team at Titleist.

  • PGA of Canada CEO Kevin Thistle (RG37)

We recently had the opportunity to sit down for an extended conversation with Kevin Thistle, CEO of the PGA of Canada. Kevin takes us through his professional journey that lead him to his current role, his lifelong relationship with golf and discusses some of the impacts of COVID-19 and the way it’s shaping the industry.

Kevin also gets into the process of becoming a CPGA pro and shares some personal anecdotes from some of his many memorable rounds, including his escapades with Masters champion Craig Stadler, who shed a bit of light on a unique feature of the storied Crows Nest, sitting atop the clubhouse at Augusta National.

The PGA of Canada is one of the presenting partners of the RBC PGA Scramble presented by the Lincoln Motor Company, which Kevin confirmed is still going forward in 2020. Registration for the event opens on May 15th. To sign up a team and find your local qualifier, visit rbcpgascramble.com. • We're Getting Close! (RG36)

It is with a newfound sense of optimism that we bring you this week’s episode! As of Monday, May 4th, the Ontario government has permitted courses to officially begin preparations for the 2020 golf season. To help give us some insight on what this means, we speak to Steve Grass, Club Manager at The Nest Golf Club at Friday Harbour. Steve explains what is going on at his course right now and what changes golfers across Ontario can expect to see when they’re able to get back out and play in the coming weeks.

To learn more about The Nest, check out Episode #23 where we sat down with Steve for an extended conversation about Innisfil’s newest golf destination.

After talking to Steve, we then discuss some new updates from the tours, including further schedule revisions and some changes to player eligibility and status on both the PGA and Korn Ferry Tours. We also talk through two newly announced made-for-TV matches coming this month - The Match: Champions for Charity and Taylormade Driving Relief. Both events will feature star-studded lineups and should help to tide over desperate fans as they anxiously await the return of competitive golf.

To round out the episode, Brent takes us through the latest edition of TWITH, where he discusses Tom Watson and his dominance at the Byron Nelson Classic.

Though it was not at all the intent this episode, he takes us on a journey through his back yard Pitch ‘n Pitch that he designed, including a detailed look at the course routing and his pretend leaderboard. Pictures and video to follow.

  • Canadian Masters Trivia (RG34)

Though we’ve been on board with practicing responsible physical distancing, this week may be hitting many golf fans particularly hard. For this, the first week of April, in any other year, would be Masters Week. Although there is no Masters (or any golf for that matter) taking place this week, the guys at Ready Golf couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. To that end, after catching up on headlines and discussing the recently announced tournament schedule, we are taking this episode to look back at some of the most interesting Canadian Masters facts that our limited research could find.

If you still are feeling like this hasn’t adequately scratched your Masters itch, feel free to check out some episodes in our back catalogue, which we refer to this week, including interviews with Brigitte Thibault and Nicole Gal, as well as a conversation with a surprise guest who stopped by this week.

Expect more Masters talk to pick up steam ahead of the tournament’s new date in November!

  • Talkin' Match Play (RG33)

This week’s episode is all about one of our favourite formats: match play. After catching up on some headlines, Eric takes a deep dive into the WGC Dell Match Play in the latest edition of This Week in Tournament History. His journey takes us back all the way to 2006 to relive one of the most lopsided victories in match play history. Then the guys then discuss some other match play topics, including dream matches they’d like to see, memorable matches from their own lives and a quick game of match play themed would-you-rather.

  • Introducing: This Week in Tournament History (BONUS)

In this special bonus pod, Ready Golf is happy to introduce a brand new feature: This Week in Tournament History (TWITH). Without any tournaments taking place, each week the guys will take a look back at a significant or interesting iteration of the tournament that would have taken place that week. In this inaugural edition, John takes a deep dive into the 2015 Valspar Championship and the role it played as a launchpad for the career of Jordan Spieth.

TWITH will become a regular segment on the show moving forward, so check back next week as Eric dives headfirst into a historic year for the WGC Dell Match Play.
