Unia's board green-lit a racism complaint against the Ghent postdoc on Oct. 1. The body says his "race realist" writing ranks people and justifies segregation. Belgian lawyers say the anti-racism law still requires malicious intent. Ghent suspended him in August after he accused the late Cambridge professor Jason Arday of plagiarism, then let him research from home with a teaching ban. U.S. Ambassador Bill White already pressed the university on his behalf.

Sunday's vote flipped the script. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro finished first with about 47% of valid votes and 56.1 million ballots. President Lula took about 45% and 53.8 million. Neither cleared 50% plus one. Runoff is set for October 25. Early returns looked close enough to an outright win that the right was watching the 50% line. Final tallies still gave the right its strongest first-round presidential result since 1989. Saturday's Quaest survey had Lula at 46% of valid votes and Bolsonaro at 45%. The count went the other way. Steve Bannon and Paulo Figueiredo walk through why the spread blindsided pundits, and why that miss matters for the Trump movement and MAGA here. Alan Das Passos, who joined Saturday, is also on the Brazil beat. Bannon opens the hour on a rightward pull across the region, comparing the feel to Brexit in June 2016 ahead of the November win. Recent presidential races in Colombia, Chile, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Costa Rica went to the right. Brazil is the biggest remaining test. Congress and the states moved with it: the Liberal Party is on track for the largest Senate bloc, Michelle Bolsonaro and Carlos Bolsonaro won Senate seats, and Tarcísio de Freitas was reelected governor of São Paulo. Bannon ties part of the shift to USAID being shut down, and says that thread is coming later in the show. The remaining first-round field was small, about 8% combined, and mostly to the right of Lula.
