On September 29, President Trump and leaders from Google, Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Nvidia, and others signed a voluntary Super Intelligence accord. Scott Greer on the Chi Phi lawsuit rocking Cornell. A former student alleges she was drugged and assaulted for hours at the frat house in October 2024. Steve Bannon opens Thursday, October 1, 2026, with Steve Cortes on the Mesabi Metallics plan for a roughly $15 billion integrated steel complex in Lee County, southeast Iowa. President Trump unveiled it at the White House on September 28 as the largest steel plant ever built in the United States.

The White House and the company put the project at about 1,750 permanent jobs, up to 6,000 construction jobs, first steel targeted for 2030, and an estimated $95 billion in economic output over construction and the first decade. Ore would come from Mesabi's Minnesota mine as "Patriot Pellets." Cortes, who has called it proof that tariffs are pulling heavy industry back to the Midwest, is pressed on whether the plant actually gets built.

The site inside southeast Iowa is not fully locked, state incentives are still thin in public, and Export-Import Bank financing of up to $10 billion has been reported. Mesabi is owned by India's Essar Group. Its Minnesota mine has a long, troubled history, including missed deadlines and a 2016 bankruptcy. Bannon's question on air is the one hanging over the announcement: is this going to happen?
