While Gunna and other associates of the Young Slime Life (YSL) gang managed to obtain plea deals that didn’t require their testimony, one member of the crew has agreed to testify against Young Thug and other affiliates in their current RICO case in an effort to secure his own freedom.  Antonio Sledge, aka Mounk Tounk, appeared at a hearing in Atlanta Wednesday where he pled guilty to conspiracy to violate the racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations act and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  The hearing found Deputy District Attorney Adriane Love reading aloud a list of “factual acknowledgments” made by Sledge as a part of his deal, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. This included confirming the locale of a YSL meet-up spot after the murder of Donovan Thomas — an associate of a rival gang — on Jan. 10, 2015. Join us as we have a conversation about when a wealthy European smallhat, Baron Rothschild, sent a French small Jacques Faitlovitch into East Africa and created a Black Ethiopian Hebrew Israelite Community.   

According to Accidental Talmudist:  

Jacques Faitlovitch devoted his life to bringing the isolated Jews of Ethiopia into the larger Jewish community.  Born into a religious family in Lodz, Poland in 1881, Jacques was always interested in Africa and the Far East. He attended the Sorbonne in Paris, where he studied at the School for Oriental Languages, becoming fluent in several Ethiopian dialects.  Jacques’ mentor was Prof. Joseph Halevy, the first European Jew to visit the remote community of Ethiopian Jews - known as the Beta Israel or Falasha - in 1869.  The origin of the Ethiopian Jews is mysterious. Many experts believe they are descendants of the lost tribe of Dan.  When discovered by Prof. Halevy in the 19th century, they were practicing an incomplete form of Judaism. They had the written Torah (the Five Books of Moses) and the Prophets, but did not have the Oral Torah (Talmud), an essential part of Judaism. They were not familiar with any post-Biblical holidays, such as Hanukkah and Purim.  Jacques traveled to Ethiopia for the first time in 1904. He said in an interview published in Warsaw’s Jewish newspaper, "They did not want to believe that I, too, am a Jew, and only after a while did I manage to prove to them that there are many more Jews in the world. Since then they have wanted to be closer to these Jews."  When the interviewer asked if he thought his mission would succeed, Jacques said: "I am sure of it. So sure that I have decided to devote my life to this cause.”  Jacques opened a school and synagogue in Addis Ababa to teach Hebrew, Judaism and Jewish history. He sent several young Ethiopians to study at the best universities in Europe, so they could come back to Ethiopia and share what they’d learned.  Jacques spent the rest of his life traveling around the world, speaking to Jewish groups and communal institutions to raise money for Ethiopian Jews. He made eleven extended trips to Ethiopia.  In 1947 he began to advocate for Ethiopian Jews to move to the newly created State of Israel. He felt that with so many Jews murdered in the Holocaust, it was vitally important to reach out to every Jew still alive, no matter how remote.  During the final years of his life, Jacques lived in Tel Aviv, where he had a large collection of rare Ethiopian books and manuscripts. After his death at 74, his widow donated the house and its contents to Tel Aviv, and the house became a public library.  In the 1970’s, Ethiopian Jews began immigrating to Israel in large numbers. Escaping famine and oppression, many died making the perilous journey.  In 1984-5, the Israeli government, assisted by the CIA, began Operation Moses, a secret mission to airlift Jews out of Ethiopia. 8000 Jews were rescued and brought to Israel. Several years later, in 1991, Operation Solomon rescued 14,500 over the course of 36 hours, on 41 flights.  Today, over 120,000 Ethiopian Jews live in Israel. Only 7,000 remain in Ethiopia. In 1956 Stanley Levison, a Jewish attorney from New York, began raising funds to support the Montgomery bus boycott and became acquainted with Martin Luther King, Jr. The two men developed a close relationship in which Levison not only advised King, but also aided him with the day-to-day administrative demands of the movement. In 1963, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) used King’s relationship with Levison, who they believed to be a Communist functionary, to justify surveillance of King.  Born in New York City on 2 May 1912, Levison studied at the University of Michigan, Columbia University, and the New School for Social Research before earning two law degrees from St. John’s University. As treasurer of the Manhattan branch of the American Jewish Congress, Levison became a champion of left-wing causes and supported the defense of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg and the campaign against the McCarran Internal Security Act. In the early 1950s the FBI considered Levison to be a major financial coordinator for the Communist Party in the United States and began to monitor his activities.  In the mid-1950s Levison turned his attention to the civil rights struggle. In 1956 Levison, Bayard Rustin, and Ella Baker created In Friendship, an organization that raised money for southern civil rights activists and organizations, including the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA). Together they formulated the concept of a regional “Congress of organizations” dedicated to mass action grounded in nonviolence, an idea that would later develop into the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) (Papers 3:491).  So yeah, make sure you tap into this conversation. Black media pundits and activists have been quick to drag political commentator Van Jones for taking it upon himself to speak on behalf of all Black people this week with a bizarre apology for the rising antisemitism that preceded Kanye West’s recent outbursts.  The media personality and Kim Kardashian BFF seemingly assumed the role of Black America’s leader when he appeared as the keynote speaker on Monday evening at the Wall Street Dinner, held by the UJA-Federation of New York, a philanthropic organization dedicated to connecting various groups in order to strengthen Jewish communities.  In a video of the speech uploaded to Twitter by the UJA, Jones detailed the work of his godmother, Dottie Zellner, a white Jewish woman and civil rights activist in the 1960s. He said she understood the impact of the Holocaust in Europe and felt the need to fight racial injustice in the U.S., so she participated in Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee-led sit-ins.  “We had 300 years of slavery, 100 years of Jim Crow terror, and a bunch of crazy Black and Jewish kids went down one summer and broke the back of Jim Crow,” Jones said, seemly forgetting that Jews are also not a monolith and are made up of multiple races and ethnicities.  So, make sure you tune in to this conversation, and don't forget to like, share, and comment!
