The lemons that come into our individual lives are not just "mine." God can use "my" lemons to help someone else when we let Him and when we recognize that our lemons may not have been His plan, but they will absolutely fulfill His purpose for our lives and the lives of others. Chances are good that someone somewhere at sometime wronged you. They gossiped, stabbed you in the back, sold you out or just abandoned you. Our reaction to being wronged is usually, well, wrong. We want to retaliate when we're wronged but has that ever succeeded in undoing the wrong done? The truth is that we will be wronged, probably many times. And While we can't keep from being wronged we can keep from retaliating - we do that best by seeing God's hand at work in our lives, even through the wrongs that are committed against us. God's greater than our grievances.

Most of us hate it when trouble comes into our lives and hate the thought that trouble will come into our lives. But trouble is necessary if you're going to build trust. You can't fully know the peace of God if you've never experienced the storms of life. In this message we'll see how David looked back over his life and recalled God's faithfulness to help him develop trust that God would continue to show up even when he made a poor decision.

Everybody gets lemons. Challenges, struggles, pain, frustrations, trouble - whatever name you give it, whatever form it comes in we all get 'em at some time or another. Many people give in or give up when life turns sour, but through Holy Spirit God can grow us through these difficult times so that we are better able to handle them and help others through them.

Many people believe that the Christian life is about who can best obey the rules and regulations. The better you adhere to the rules the better, more loved by God, Christian you are. Because of this some put a LOT of emphasis on how you dress, how you talk, what version of the Bible you prefer or how spiritual you sound. But the Christian life is not about rules its about relationship. The most perfect Christian is not a thing - we're just all trying to look more like Jesus a little at a time, focusing on Him and what He did, not on us and what we've done. That first Easter day every person Jesus met was a skeptic - they had all heard Him proclaim, "3 days later..." But no one believed him, until it happened. By the end of that first day all but one had come to faith based on seeing the face of Jesus alive. For the disciples Jesus entered a room that was locked showing that the physical barriers we place in his path are useless - but many of us still lock the spiritual door of our lives. Jesus won't force His way in, he has to be invited. Because of that Jesus isn't afraid of skeptics who don't believe, He's afraid FOR skeptics who refuse to believe what they see.

Saul started out with a lot promise and ended with a lot of problems, namely fear. Saul's whole kingship was marked by fear, he was constantly afraid and he let that fear define him. Instead of being the king God knew he could be, he became the king nobody thought he would be - a paranoid, ego-driven, self-serving king who broke his own laws. David is seen completely different, instead of fear defining David's reign, he let faith defend him - so God accomplished more through David because his faith than he could through Saul because of his fear. Fear keeps you FROM what faith keeps you FOR.

David needed friends. Most of the ones he got weren't very desirable - but for David to survive and accomplish what He needed before becoming King He had to have others around him. Men who would protect him, push him, praise him and put him down a peg or two when needed. David wouldn't have been the man or king he was without the men around him - he needed them just as much as they needed him. Friendships are hard work sometimes, and you don't always end up with the friends you grew up with, but you were created for connection and you'll never accomplish more than you can with more friends.

The major difference between the failure of Saul and the faith of David is found, not in their conquests, but in the content of their hearts. Saul was out to write an epic story for himself, while David wanted to highlight God's glory. David credited God with his past success and looked to God to sustain him moving forward. Because David was after God's glory, God wrote him a better story than he could have dreamed- through obscurity to popularity to scrutiny and finally to security David continued to seek God's glory.
