Congrats, Treasure Valley, we made another list! This time, it's fastest-growing housing prices in the nation. Yay?
Regular listeners to the show might remember that Brian is fired up about property taxes. He's not the only one. From Boise to Caldwell, homeowners are feeling the pinch - but the pinch is feeling more like a bear trap these last many years.
Brian is floating the idea of a California-inspired solution: a voter's initiative to limit the year-to-year increase of property taxes. Is this something you'd support - please contact Brian though the website.
There are many more calls than usual in this show, but it seems like everyone agrees: something needs to be done.

Financial advisor Brian Wiley and attorney Steve Rausch are professionals, and humans. Our offices are fortunate to be able to help people before, during, and after good and difficult times in life, but some days are more difficult than others.
Unfortunately, the loss of a client this week means everyone goes into action while mourning, but with proper pre-planning, our case won't be too complex. But what happens when the worst happens? It can be incredibly messy, costly, and time-consuming.
A caller asks about the complications of dueling estate documents and potential pitfalls; Brian answers an email about cashing out savings bonds.

Financial advisor Brian Wiley and attorney Steve Rausch are back in the studio to parse the confusing state of the economy. Are we going to cut taxes and increase spending? Is that a thing?
Brian once again implores listeners to contact their representatives in congress before the SECURE Act passes. Like, yesterday.
A caller asks about life insurance - there's great advice for all ages here.

In this solo show, financial advisor Brian Wiley wears (a bit of) his heart on the mic. The State of Idaho is facing a budget shortfall after hedging too much on the repatriation of businesses. The coffers are looking so full.
What a regressive tax? We experience quite a few on a daily basis, including taxes on basic items we require to survive and thrive in a developed nation: food, water, sanitary products, cleaning supplies, etc. These taxes disproportionately burden low income people. Period. That's where public assistance can kick in, but what if we removed the necessity for a bandaid on the system by simple NOT creating the need to begin with?
Brian shares a touching story of a family member who, at 54, still lives with his aging parents because he wasn't born with the same mental and physical capacity as most of us. They've never taken advantage of public assistance, even though it exists for them.

The news cycle continues to take its toll, and the president's reactionary nature is taking its toll on Brian's ability to find any logic. After refusing to acknowledge a potential recession, Trump flips the script to propose a temporary cut to payroll taxes and stimulate an economy that's already well-stimulated?
Sensationalism, mixed signals don't just shock and confuse the everyday American - even a financial advisor like Brian Wiley just can't make sense of things.
Attorney and history fan Steve Rausch provides a salient quote from Benjamin Franklin (1787):
“Well, Doctor, what have we got — a Republic or a Monarchy?”
“A Republic, if you can keep it.”
The American people face many challenges. That's life. One challenge we must take on is being honest with ourselves and each other, and continue to question leadership. This republic belongs to everyone, but the administration doesn't seem to behave like that.

Once again, headlines are dominated by news of a potential economic downturn. The president has both claimed the US is in great shape and headed for disaster - huh? Is the 24 hour news cycle wagging the economic dog into a recession? How much fear-mongering can we tolerate?
Brian provides a poetic analogy: trees and the economy behave similarly with a need to "chill hours" - roots can't grow without winter, and the economy must ebb in order to innovate and recalibrate. It's not if, but when: but that doesn't mean Depression.
The market isn't the economy, but that doesn't stop pundits from dramatizing its news. Truth, logic, and unemotional approaches are practical, but that doesn't sell add space.

Market volatility dominated headlines and news programs all week. The Inverted Yield Curved even made its way to late night television. When markets are in the zeitgeist, irrational, emotional investors make mistakes and only make things worse. So, are you smart money or dumb money? A "flight to quality" is everything but: bonds aren't going to save you from yourself.
Then, back to basics with attorney Steve Rausch. Estate planning is important for most people, whether you are single, married with or without children, it's good to cover your bases. A simple will can suffice for some, while a large family with a disabled child might warrant a trust. Ultimately, some planning is better than none, but seeking the advice of a professional is better than leaving a mess for someone else after you expire.

Financial advisor Brian Wiley sits down with insurance expert Steve Marsh to discuss the evergreen hot topic of America's broken healthcare system. The ACA works for some, but not everyone. Medicare For All is a popular talking point among Democratic presidential hopefuls, but no one seems to agree on what the best solution is.
A caller weighs is with a pretty staunch opinion against Medicare For All.
Then, do you know anyone whose main source of income is Social Security? Do they have an IRA? If so, Brian lays out the formula, and reason to convert as much of that IRA money to ROTH IRA money, as soon as possible. Listen and learn (and email if you want to know more!).

Welp, the markets took a deep dive again today. Are you worried? How much? Is that 2008 feeling starting to sink in?
Uneducated investors are making the predictable, but ill-advised "flight to quality" and bring the value of everything down along with them. Financial advisor Brian Wiley credits this common, and dangerous mistake to one thing: a lack of planning. There's still time to meet with an advisor, so do it.
Then, a listener calls in with an emotional, scary financial issue. There's often hope, and Brian and Steve provide sound advice and a lesson in business.
Another caller is just getting started with investing and wants to get off on the right foot. Simple, widely-applicable advice for him.
This is an extended show with tons of sage advice and lessons for a wide variety of people.

Financial advisor Brian Wiley and CPA Hazen Armstrong sit down with special guest and Intellectual Property attorney Steve Weiland (yes, another Steve!) of Mooney Wieland.
First, a primer on the state of the markets, and why it's definitely (if you haven't) time to sit down with your financial planner.
Then, Hazen has some exciting updates on tax forms! What's the 1040-S? Is Social Security income taxable (kind of).
Finally, new Steve provides the listeners with helpful information on business contingency plans, key man insurance, and how to protect yourself from yourself, partners, and... what's a Poison Pill?
