  • Why Self Care is Super Important - The Importance of Self Care

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: The Importance of Self Care

I know Self Care is talked about a lot on the internet, but I am here to breakdown the misguided thoughts & assumptions some have about self care being important to your overall wellbeing.

I hope my break downs on why self care is important & suggestions for how to implement it into your life are helpful!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Self Care is essential to your overall well-being & will assist in being able to function at your best.
    • Engaging in self care is you actively improving your overall health & wellbeing, which is your decision to act on your needs and do what makes you happy and satisfies your needs.
    • It’s pretty easy for us to become overly consumed with everything in our lives that we don’t take the time to care for ourselves & make sure we continually have the ability to enjoy everything in our lives.
    • If you neglect taking care of yourself, it can easily cause most things in your life to go downhill.
    • Some things that can happen when you don’t practice self care is burn out, feeling overly stressed & overwhelmed, moody or you might slip into more harsh feelings like depression.
    • Self care can actually contribute to self-acceptance because you will be able to learn your limits over time & start to listen to your inner self on how to live your life with more balance.
    • This also leads me to bringing up personal boundaries. Make sure you are not taking on too much in your life, have the ability to say ‘no’ when needed & can make the right choices that will best support you & your season of life. Establishing boundaries contributes to self care because you are doing what is best for you & boundaries help make that happen.
    • If you are having a hard time figuring out what you can do to start incorporating self care into your life, ask yourself this question & it will lead you in the right direction, “How can I reduce my stress, feel better overall & move forward with a system that supports my daily life better?”

  • Plan Your Self Care & Actually Do It - The Importance of Self Care

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • Self care looks different for everyone & it should. What you do for self care has to be what is best for you, not your favorite person you follow on socials.
    • It’s pretty easy to say you are going to include self care in your life, but never actually do it. Let’s talk about some ways to make it actually happen.
    • First off, make sure you are doing something that you actually enjoy & makes you happy. That doesn’t mean it should be something that doesn’t cause you to push yourself or needs to be super easy. It’s great to incorporate challenging activities, too, like working out or learning new hobbies.
    • Next, really look at your schedule & FIND the time to input your moments of self care. If you are finding this very difficult, do your best to find even the smallest moments to add in self care times & tell yourself it will be worth it.
    • Be real with yourself & maybe substitute some self care with tasks that don’t necessarily HAVE to get done at that time & day, then adjust your schedule accordingly.
    • Also, figure out what is holding you back from adding self care into your life.
    • Do you find that you are too busy after work or that you just have too many personal responsibilities in your life? Maybe you just feel guilty for taking time for yourself.
    • What you’ll need to do is identify the belief that is holding you back & conquer it.
    • Maybe you need to adjust your schedule to wake up earlier if working out is your form of self care. You could start taking your lunch break at work & spend that time taking a walk, reading a book or doing some meditation away from the office.
    • You could also start implementing your personal boundaries & say ‘no’ to activities & responsibilities you just don’t have time for or need to reject to make room for your own time.
    • Everyone’s circumstances will be different, so you need to figure out what will work best for you & actually make changes to fit self care in your life.
    • And remember that whatever you choose for self care doesn’t have to be a really big chunk out of your day. It can be as little as 10 minutes, 20 minutes, an hour, whatever works best for you.
    • I just encourage you to actually put your self care items into your calendar or whatever system you use to keep track of what you have to do every single day. By adding these things to your daily schedule, like everything else you have to get done, it will ensure your self care is actually completed & implemented into your life.
    • And please don't compare your self care routine to anyone else, as we are all different, in different seasons of life & what works best for one person is generally not the same for another.

  • What Self Care Is & Is Not - The Importance of Self Care

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • Self Care is talked about ALL THE TIME & I understand how it can be something that is talked about way too much, but I honestly think that sometimes people don’t fully understand the point of it & how to actually execute giving it to yourself. So that’s what we are going to talk about this week.
    • A lot of people think that self care can be considered an excuse for laziness, super selfish, a luxury or unnecessary in general. But I’m here to tell you that I believe all these opinions are misguided and/or wrong.
    • Self care will be different for everyone, but the main point to understand is that self care is just simply taking the time to take care of yourself. Simple, I know.
    • It’s super important to take the time to support & improve yourself on a regular basis. It’s about listening to your body & mind & doing what will help you function the best.
    • Again, everyone is different & you are the only one that will know what is best for you, so you have to listen to your body & mind & do the work yourself.
    • And let’s chat about a few misconceptions of self care. Firstly, it doesn’t have to be expensive. Self care doesn’t have to be a spa day or going on a shopping spree or spending money at all. If you want to do any of those things, PLEASE DO because it’s all about what is best for you. But if you don’t have a desire to do that, then don’t. It could easily just be taking time alone at home.
    • Next, self care isn’t about spoiling yourself or overindulging in something. You have the right to do these things, but by eating tons of foods you know you shouldn’t be based on your own personal goals or spending tons of time binge-watching tv or sleeping all day multiple days in a row & calling that self care sounds more like finding an excuse to cover all that stuff rather than taking care of yourself.
    • And it’s fine to do those things once in a while, but if those behaviors do not align with your life, you might need to check yourself.
    • And lastly, self care isn’t selfish. I know we have all heard that if we can’t take proper care of ourselves, we aren’t able to take care of others properly. And it’s true. You HAVE TO take the time to care for yourself or you will end up burning out or falling apart at some point and be no good to others or yourself.

  • Learn to Flex When Needed - Grow Your Mindset

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Grow Your Mindset

Taking the time to grow your mindset allows you to adapt to change & flex when necessary, much easier & quicker than if you didn't work on it.

My hope with these tips on growing your mindset is that doing so will contribute to your daily work of becoming your best self & achieving your desired goals.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Not everything is going to work out the way you want it to, so the need to flex is very important.
    • Mental flexibility can help cultivate happiness & bring down your stress level.
    • I know that we all create routines in our lives and when everything is going well, it just feels so great. But it’s important to remember that things will not always go as planned.
    • If you suffer from control issues, this might be a toughy for you to handle if your plans go differently or something causes trouble when you weren’t expecting it.
    • Also, just know that if you feel like you are the type of person that finds it hard to change & adapt in the moment because everything needs to be just so, that’s fine but just know you can change & become more flexible if you take it a little bit at a time.
    • And the biggest benefit you will get from being more flexible is not stressing as much about what is happening compared to what was supposed to be happening.
    • Something helpful to think about to get you on the right track of being more flexible is to think of some ways in your life right now that you could compromise on & be more flexible. Being able to identify some ways you can bend right now & giving those ways a try will make it easier to do so in the future when it’s unexpected.
    • Some more great  things about being more flexible in life is not being so defensive because you take time to respond without just reacting in the same way you normally would.
    • You have the ability to change your opinion if you learn new information & need to adjust your thinking. This goes hand in hand with being open minded.
    • You can also see the humor in some things going wrong & letting those things slide off your back.
    • And lastly, those that are mentally flexible are high in emotional intelligence & have an easier time listening & empathizing with others.
    • Acknowledge new ways of thinking & being in the world.

  • Cultivate Curiosity - Grow Your Mindset

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • I don’t have a lot of things to say about this topic today, but I needed to mention it because I believe it is very important to stay curious in life, in general.
    • Being curious, staying open-minded will continually grow your mindset.
    • Take the time to go out of your way to learn new things, try new hobbies & activities, just step out of your comfort zone on the regular.
    • Cultivating curiosity is one of the best ways to shake things up & improve your current skills & become better at problem-solving because you are exposing yourself to new opportunities & experiences.
    • Be a part of the world’s continual process of reinventing processes & way things are done by getting out there and trying to do things differently. Think of it as reinventing the wheel.
    • Some quick tips on how to be more curious is to first: read more books.
    • Second, ask more questions & figure out why things are the way that they are & if changing it would be beneficial.
    • Lastly, spend some time with a child or try to think how a child does to experience a different perspective. This will help you take a break from any possible bouts of being jaded or cynical.

  • Persistence is Important - Grow Your Mindset

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

    • I’m sure it’s super obvious that if you decide to give up on things or refuse to keep going after encountering setbacks you are not allowing yourself to grow.
    • Persistence will push your growth to another level, because you are not letting anything stop you or convince you your goals & dreams aren’t worth it.
    • I recently saw a quote online that explained the definition of persistence as, “when determination exceeds doubt,” and that is exactly true.
    • A lot of times we let fear, doubt, uncertainty & what other people think and say to & about us get in the way of accomplishing goals & going after what you want to do in life.
    • I honestly think that sometimes we invite things like this into our lives to setup road blocks because of our own insecurities & inability to see the possibilities of the future. We don’t want to be disappointed if we don’t succeed.
    • If what you are going after does create fear & uncertainty for you, break it down into small steps to work on every day. Don’t let yourself become overwhelmed with the goal as a whole.
    • Give yourself permission to be imperfect.
    • Ask questions when you don’t know something & never pretend like you know something you don’t.
    • Accept every opportunity you get to learn new things, especially if it’s from someone directly & in person. And it’s ok to admit you are wrong or change your mind about something if new information comes to light.
    • Keep working towards your goal even if it becomes hard to keep going.
    • Be patient with yourself, even when you make mistakes.

  • Accept & Embrace Your Imperfections - Grow Your Mindset

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • No one is perfect. It’s a fact & something we should all accept if we don’t already.
    • Let’s start by talking about some key facts in regards to perfectionism & first up is making sure everyone knows that being a perfectionist is NOT striving to be your best.
    • Perfectionism is also destructive to yourself because no one is perfect & you are killing yourself for something that is a fantasy.
    • And trying to be perfect is a terrible addiction & a tough habit to stop.
    • One of the best first ways to embrace your imperfections is to get over being obsessed with what others think of you. It doesn’t help you become a better person or accomplish anything important.
    • You need to be your true self & not rely on others' impressions of you to dictate who you are & how you live your life. You can’t truly connect with others on an honest level until you do so as your true, authentic self.
    • Next, view your failures as a step closer to your end goal. And if the word ‘failure’ is a bit harsh, I suggest you use the work mistake instead. It’s a lot gentler on your mind.
    • Give yourself room to mess up & not be perfect, which will help negate your need to be perfect, if you struggle with that. And be kind to yourself if you are having a hard time giving yourself that room. It will take some time to wean away from perfectionist tendencies.
    • And hopefully this doesn’t offend anyone, but by being ok with making mistakes & accepting those mistakes fully, you are more authentic & relatable to others.
    • Also, see challenges as opportunities to grow & learn. (I talk about this ALL THE TIME, I know.)
    • Challenges will help you grow as a person & teach you new things & expose things you may need to work on. And all of those things are ok.
    • Lastly, know & accept your worth. Just because you make mistakes & aren’t perfect doesn’t mean you aren’t worth something.
    • Like I mentioned, no one is perfect & even those who are as close as they can get aren’t any better than you. And they are probably in more pain than you because trying to be perfect is ALL they are thinking about all the time that it hurts other things in their life.
    • Be grateful for the mistakes you make & the learning lessons you gain from those experiences.

  • Look for Ways to Improve Yourself - Grow Your Mindset

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • Let’s start this by acknowledging that there is always something to learn.
    • Please do not ever think that you have hit the height of your existence & cannot learn anymore. It’s not true.
    • If you haven’t already, develop a mindset that is open to growth & change.
    • Being open to learning how to do new things, a new way of going about something you already do on a regular basis or work on something that you are struggling with is an amazing way to grow & become an even better version of yourself.
    • One of the best ways to improve yourself is to use more positive self-talk on the daily.
    • Evaluate how you are treating others & if you would appreciate being treated the same, even if it’s a stranger.
    • Think about some goals & tasks that you have been meaning to work on or complete & ask yourself why it hasn’t gotten done. Once you figure it out, fix the issue & move forward with those things.
    • Reflecting back on what you’ve learned & how you have shifted & changed within different seasons of life can really help you pinpoint any problem areas that need to be adjusted even more or some big wins that can continue to point you in the right direction.
    • Establish personal boundaries if you haven’t already.
    • Include gratitude in your life every single day.

  • Daily Fun Tasks to Cultivate Happiness - Habits for Happiness

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Habits for Happiness

This week I want to talk about some important habits to include in your daily life to cultivate more happiness on the regular.

Hopefully, these tips will assist you in whatever journey you are on in your life & make your experiences more enjoyable!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • I wanted to end this week by giving you some easy & simple ways to cultivate happiness that aren’t as heavy as we have been talking about this past week.
    • Let’s start with the classic social media cleanse. We all know social media can mostly be a highlight reel, but sometimes we can get so sucked in that we aren’t rationally thinking that way. Taking a small or big break from your apps & websites will let your brain breath & remind you that not everything is perfect like all those picture you see online.
    • Next, just simply take care of yourself. Put yourself first and make sure your needs are met. Spend some time on your own to become more self-aware & decompress from any social, work or personal pressures.
    • Another great one that I have been slowly practicing lately is getting rid of crap. Purging things you really don’t need or haven’t used in awhile will really give you some freedom in your mind & physical life. This is also a reminder that things don’t bring true happiness.
    • Also remember to live more in the moment. Enjoy your life right now. Don’t always be looking into the future or dwelling on the past. Living life right now will really let you enjoy it fully.
    • Some even simpler things to do that double-downs on happiness in the moment is reading a book, listening to good music, spending time with close friends & family & pets,
    • Don’t forget to celebrate any small wins in your life. Milestones & progress towards any goals in your life is something to celebrate & knowing you are making strides will definitely cause happiness.
    • Lastly, create healthy habits that will better yourself every day. This could be exercise, working on passion projects, starting your day off with some encouragement, work on getting rid of any toxic habits, improve your quality of sleep, create a healthier diet & drink more water, compliment others, make your bed and finally spend time to plan your day out either the night before or when you wake up.

  • Embrace Challenges & New Experiences - Habits for Happiness

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • It might not be the first thing you think about when figuring out how to create more happiness in your life, but trying new things & challenging yourself are really beneficial in this desire.
    • Embracing a challenge as an opportunity for growth can help breed more happiness by giving you something to progress towards & look forward to. You’ll learn more about yourself, too. Self-discovery is super important in knowing how to sustain any happiness you have by knowing yourself better.
    • When embracing new things, it’s important to have a positive outlook as much as possible, which will then trickle down into many other things in your life.
    • Embrace any imperfections in your life & see any little annoyances as challenges to yourself to keep a positive perspective & be mindful of any negative behaviors, despite any struggles. And to learn from the experience, as well.
    • I have talked about self-awareness so many times & I’m not gonna stop now! Learning more about who you are & how your mind works makes going through difficult times so much easier. Knowing how you process negative inputs, positive inputs, confusing situations, ect will better your mental wellness entirely.
    • And let me mention that embracing new challenges will help if you are stuck in a rut. Living your life the same, day in & day out, especially if it’s not fully satisfying, can really mess with your ability to continue thriving in any current happiness. Life can get dull & boring or complicated when trouble comes & if you haven’t had the opportunity to try new ways to problem-solve or adjust your life to make up for any issues that come along, you will not be as happy.
    • Lastly, embracing new experiences & uncertainty can feel liberating and exciting. Set yourself free from any stagnation & be open to even more opportunities for happiness.
