  • Consider Your Nutrition & Health - How to Have the Best Week Ever!

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: How to Have the Best Week Ever!

I think it’s always helpful to have some tips on how to have a great week or at least set it up with the best intentions.

I do want to make mention that by no means will these tips or any tips you get from anyone give you a perfect week or the best week ever FOR SURE because of life's uncertainties.

However, you CAN do your best to set yourself up for the best possible week ever & have the positive mindset that it will turn out as best it can.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Let’s start with talking about exercise. Exercise releases so many chemicals in the brain that benefits your mental health, including endorphins, which helps with overall happiness. In addition to that, it also increases the release of norepinephrine, which controls & alleviates stress.
    • Not only does exercise help with stress, it also helps with anxiety, your quality of sleep, ability to relax, cognitive function & self-confidence.
    • Those that suffer from anxiety that start an exercise program & start to pay more attention to their body, tend to respond more quickly to medication protocols & other treatments in comparison to others that did not engage in physical activity.
    • In regards to your quality of sleep, whether you have any mental health issues or not, working out & eating right can really help you sleep better & wake up more restful.
    • Expending extra energy in your body in some form of exercise can help with your quality of sleep & improve your circadian rhythm. The more energy you expend, the more time your body requires repair & re-energizing time. Also, by releasing stress through exercise, it will help you sleep longer through the night.
    • Research shows that cardiovascular activity can help form new brain cells & boost protein levels, which is responsible for learning & decision making. This is how exercise contributes to better cognitive function.
    • Obviously while you are getting physically healthier, you will notice your body becoming stronger & more fit, which will bring confidence, but also you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are doing all these amazing things for your body, which will also make you feel good about yourself.
    • Now in regards to nutrition, having a healthy diet can really help stabilize mental health. And of course that diet is going to look different for everyone, but here are some good eating habit ideas to throw into your own personal plan.
    • Remember to eat regularly throughout the day, incorporate healthy fats & omega-3s, watch your refined sugar intake, which can easily cause dips in your moods, eat protein, and I think it is really helpful to have protein first thing in the morning because it will keep you fuller for longer & helps your brain have all the neurotransmitters you need to help your entire body function properly. And as always, drink plenty of water.
    • Nutrition is integral to just feeling good in general. If you eat what your body needs to function & thrive, you will be on your way to having the best day & week ever.

  • Nuture Your Relationships - How to Have the Best Week Ever!

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

Here are some notes from today's episode:.

    • Relationships cannot thrive on their own, they need love & care like many other things in our lives. Taking the time to work on all the relationships in your life, even ones that are doing just fine, is integral to how long those will last, how beneficial these will be & what kind of impact these will make on your everyday life.
    • Relationships do not get better on their own. You have to put in the effort, time & work to maintain them or find yourself in some hurt and/or loneliness.
    • Let’s start with actually making time for your relationships. You have to make time to put in the time. Make sure you are calling your friends to check-in, hang out or make plans for the future.
    • Even if you only put in 30 minutes per day, broken up into even smaller segments throughout the day, it still counts as putting in the time. And, you may not even realize how big a difference that makes to those people you are making the time for. This also lets those in your life know they are a priority.
    • Going along with this, it’s important to keep communication a priority, as well. All good relationships starts with communication. It’s important to know when you need to talk something out & when you need to listen. This also means that when you have problems, issues or disagreements, you need to make the effort to talk it out & not run away from the tension.
    • The willingness to work through difficulties & disagreements is worth the discomfort of differing opinions & ideas, because it means you are making your relationships stronger in the end. And remember forgiveness is always the best choice for everyone.
    • In addition to this, when you do take the time to resolve problems or discover information about the other person, don’t jump to conclusions. It’s much better & more mature to go to someone, ask questions, non-accusingly, & figure it out together.
    • It’s also important to remember to follow through with your commitments & promises that you make to our friends, family & really anyone else.  Another way to think about this is to underpromise & overdeliver.
    • And remember that everyone wants to be appreciated. You don’t have to be the bestest ever or super perfect about it, but just show your appreciation as much as you’re able.
    • Lastly, do not take your relationships for granted. And don’t treat your relationships like something you only take from & give, too. You need to make sure you are giving back more than you are taking.

  • Start Your Week With A Plan - How to Have the Best Week Ever!

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

Here are some notes from today's episode:.

    • I believe there is nothing better than having a plan & goals, even if those things are loosely derived because it can easily set you up for success & accomplishment.
    • I have spoken about it before, that by filling out your planner or calendar either the night before or in the morning when you first get up is really helpful. But it can also be helpful to fill out all the appointments, plans, & tasks you already know you need to do for the week either on Sunday before your week starts or at the top of your day on Monday.
    • By having everything organized ahead of time you will be a step ahead for the week & hopefully feel less flustered if something goes sideways or wrong during the week.
    • Some other things you can easily do is get any additions in order that pertain to events you are attending during the week. This could be birthday cards or gifts, making sure you get something you borrowed back to a friend, prepping whatever is needed for your kiddos plans & events or paperwork that needs to be turned in/mailed in/emailed in.
    • Any if you have any goals you are working towards, I encourage you to get those in line, as well. Evaluate your progress & figure out before the week starts what needs to be done to get to the next milestone.
    • Something else that I really enjoy doing on Sundays is to tidy up the house a bit so I feel better equipped to take on Monday. And I don’t not like Monday’s by any means, but I don’t feel as stressed when I get up in the morning & the laundry has been sorted & put away, there isn’t a sink full of dishes & my living room doesn’t look like a disaster.
    • One last thing that could help you really reign everything in is to pick something that needs to be the focus of the week.
    • So let’s say you have gotten really behind on some chores & feel the need to catch up, so you make it a priority to assign a task to every day so you will be all caught up by the end of the week. Or maybe you are coming in hot for a deadline, like for taxes or turning something important in for work. Create a quick plan on how you can get all the necessary tasks accomplished & done to meet your deadline.
    • And let me end on letting you know that none of this is meant to be stressful, by any means. By planning everything out ahead of time, you should be eliminating any stress & giving yourself more room to breath.
    • But just remember that any way you decide to do these things, do it the way that works best for you.

  • Fear of the Future & Failures - Stop Giving Up On Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Stop Giving Up On Yourself

It can be so easy to give up on ourselves when tough situations come along, which is why I thought it would be super helpful to talk about different ways we give up on ourselves & how to overcome those negative trends.

I hope this week's episodes are helpful on how to stop giving up on yourself when the going gets tough & give you the strength & knowledge to keep going & be your best self.

Here are some notes from today's episode:.

    • Signs that you may be struggling with fear of failure: procrastinating, worried about what others think about you, telling yourself that you aren’t good enough, being a perfectionist, doubting yourself, trouble making decisions & intense feelings of shame.
    • First, I encourage you to discover the origins of your fears. Think back to whether it was from childhood experiences, a time that you were humiliated, something happening out of the blue with no expectation or warning that causes uncertainty for the future. No matter what it is, it’s important to nail down where the fear came from to evaluate those experiences to know how to adjust your mindset & move forward without those setbacks.
    • Change your mindset & perspective. Understand that this includes not just changing your perspective on how you developed your fears, but also how to manage your mind & emotions going forward.
    • Your mindset can determine how you act, think & feel with everything in your life. And with that, just know that even if you do fail, it just means you need more time to develop those skills.
    • If you do struggle with fear of the future because it’s unsettling not knowing what is going to happen, remind yourself that life is a journey & accepting things as they come is the best way to learn to live in the moment. & be flexible.
    • Included in changing your mindset is working on positive thinking.  With positive thinking, we need to stop focusing so hard on the negative outcomes & obstacles that present challenges, because there is a learning opportunity every single time.
    • Creating goals & making plans can help you feel more organized & as if you have a bit of control over whatever is happening.
    • Goal setting & planning will help you build confidence, self-worth & belief in yourself because you are out there achieving things & growing as a person.
    • Living in the moment will also help you overcome your fear of the future because you are instead enjoying what is happening right now, as opposed to being so worried about what is or could happen.
    • Lastly, at some point you will need to accept & embrace that the future is uncertain & that mistakes & failure are reality sometimes. I encourage you to accept that sometimes you will feel those fears bubble up & will need to accept that those are there, figure out what caused them, navigate through those feelings by asking self-discovery questions & use those discoveries to learn something & move forward. Overcoming your fears will make you stronger & more resilient.

  • Overwhelmed & Over-Worked - Stop Giving Up On Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • Despite what it is that causes you to feel overwhelmed, whether it is relationships, your job, past trauma, lack of sleep, financial issues or mental health stress, the common denominator is that these things are creating more stress in your life that you don’t need.
    • And know, that when you are having those thoughts of feeling overwhelming that it’s all in your mind & not your actual reality.
    • I know it can get a little stressful & overwhelming when you start a new project, new job, new anything, but just know & believe that things will come together in the end. This comes back to having the right mindset when all your brain wants to do is take a deep dive into negativity.
    • And I understand that new responsibilities & challenges bring on the stress hardcore, but take a step back & evaluate the situation for what it is, just something new that you will eventually adapt to. And if you don’t, that’s still no problem, just ask for help.
    • Now, sometimes we make things bigger in our minds than it actually is. And as always, I am not here to diminish your feelings or emotions, but sometimes our sense of reality is off. The best way to evaluate whether this is true or not is to step away from your issues & help someone else with theirs, like volunteering or donating your time some other way.
    • And know that people are out there rooting for you. It may not feel like it, but those close to you want you to succeed.
    • Tips: Pinpoint what exactly is causing you to feel overwhelmed. It could feel like a lot of things, but what it the core source? The best way to figure this out is to ask yourself, “What things could I take off my plate right now that would alleviate most of this stress?”
    • Create boundaries in your life, personal & work.
    • Being a perfectionist can really pile on the overworked & overwhelmed feelings because you are trying to do more than you are physically capable of & you know it. You have to be reasonable with yourself, lighten your load & lower your sky high expectations.
    • Lastly, let go of your limiting beliefs. Example: You do not accomplish everything you set out to do or feel like things will or have fallen through the cracks, you believe you are a failure. Or that if you aren’t there to be helpful then you will be seen as unneeded & not as valuable. I know it can be quite easy to fall into this way of thinking because your expectations for yourself were too high, but know that if you take the time to eliminate those thoughts over time, you will be released from these beliefs & give yourself freedom to make mistakes & live your life.

  • Dwelling On Mistakes - Stop Giving Up On Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Sometimes dwelling on our mistakes can seem like a comfort because we like to think about how we could of done this or that differently. When in reality, dwelling is pulling you further & further away from getting any peace from past mistakes or taking those opportunities to grow from those experiences.
    • As always, I want to give you some tips on how to no longer dwell on our past mistakes & use those experiences to grow & become our best selves.
    • So first off, take the time to process what exactly happened to create the mistake in the first place. Evaluate what led you in that direction & how that affected you while it was happening.
    • Next, accept & admit whatever happened has happened & that there is no taking it back. I think that’s the toughest part of falling into the trap of dwelling on mistakes because we think that harping over what happened will change the outcome.
    • I also want to encourage you to not look at your mistakes as failures, but as opportunities to learn & grow. I know I mention this all the time, but it’s worth mentioning all the time. Just labeling yourself as a failure will only bring you down even more & cause you to spiral down into more negative thoughts.
    • Also, learn to understand your inner critic. We can be our own worst enemies & it’s important to remember that when we are coming down on ourselves about every little thing. Just know that not everything that our mind tells us is true. It’s pretty easy to get caught up in negative thoughts & mindsets.
    • Now, if the mistakes you have made affected others, it’s important to make those amends. Forgiving yourself for mistakes you have made is important, but it’s just as crucial to ask forgiveness from others (when appropriate) & do what needs to be done to make it right.
    • And if you haven’t come to this realization yet, know that you need to not be so hard on yourself & make sure you pat yourself on the back when you do good things. Count your progress in whatever you do as positive points. Just because you haven’t fully achieved your goals or there are bumps along the way doesn’t mean you are a failure or that making any mistakes along the way is a bad thing.
    • Lastly, I need to remind you that self care & embracing who you are, mistakes & all, is necessary to becoming your best self.
    • No one is perfect, nor do we need to be, because our flaws, our mistakes, everything we have done wrong & right makes us who we are & helps us grow into who we will become.

  • Believing In Your Weaknesses - Stop Giving Up On Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • I believe that one of the biggest barriers that we create for ourselves is letting what we think are our weaknesses hold us back from trying new things & having new experiences.
    • A lot of time we spend more time highlighting our weaknesses than we do our strengths
    • So let's talk about how we can overcome how we think about our weaknesses & use those thoughts to push us forward in our pursuit to become our best selves.
    • One of the first things you can do is take some time for self-discovery & really come up with some reasons for why you are being so hard on yourself. A lot of times we label what we believe are our weaknesses too quickly before taking the time to really see what it means to be those things.
    • It would be better to take some time to journal about it, talk with someone about it, just generally really think about what those traits could mean when looked at from a different perspective. Detailing your fears, mistakes, but also achievements & victories will help you to gain a new perspective & be more accepting of those traits you think less of.
    • Also taking the time to evaluate your weaknesses & realize it could be seen as something else is helpful, too. For example, if you are shy, maybe consider that shyness is actually a way for people to see you as non-boasting, not attention seeking & authentic to who you are.
    • There is also the simple suggestion of working to overcome your weaknesses by accepting those attributes as an important part of who you are & how you became you. But it’s important to note that if you don’t make the effort to accept your weaknesses, you won’t ever be able to work towards the change needed to overcome those things.
    • I also think it would be super helpful to bring up your weaknesses as much as possible. Be proud of the things you are working on, making better & using to learn more & become your best self. It also is a great way to become more authentic & transparent by sharing the things you are dealing with in your life & not pretending to be someone with no faults.
    • If you have a problem with discovering your weaknesses, you might want to ask those close to you for some feedback. But it’s important to not get defensive when you request feedback from others. It doesn’t mean every single thing they say is correct, but it shouldn’t be dismissed either, just because you don’t see any faults in it.
    • And lastly, if you are able to find a common theme between any of your weaknesses, like if you don’t get along with certain groups of people very well, it could be you lacking in communication skills.

  • Stuck In the Past & Resisting Change - Stop Giving Up On Yourself

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • A lot of times our past can have a tight grip on our self-esteem because we let our past mistakes hold us back from future opportunities.
    • One of the reasons you could still be stuck in the past is because there is still pain & experiences that have not been healed and/or processed.
    • If you find that journaling, talking with someone you trust & confide in, mediating or confronting those involved head-on hasn’t or won’t work for you, please consider counseling. Taking your issues to a professional to help you solve them will be so helpful & life-changing.
    • In addition to this, you could have some unforgiveness harboring in your heart.
    • Some great ways to help you tackle forgiving someone is to let go of any punishment you have bestowed on them, like the silent treatment or withholding love/affection, do not celebrate their failures, don’t speak poorly of them, stop reminiscing about how the whole offense started & treat them the way you’d like to be treated.
    • Another way to stop getting stuck in the past is to replace the negative thoughts that come up when dwelling on the negative experiences. Dwelling tends to make us focus on what we have lost instead of what we have gained. We need to replace the negative with the positive, like making a list of positive things you have learned & gained from past experiences.
    • We also need to accept the fact that there is no changing the past. What is done is done. Your only options are to accept your past, learn from it & move on or continue to dwell on it & be miserable.
    • Now, let’s talk about resisting change. One of the biggest reasons people resist change is because they focus on what they have to lose or give up rather than gain.
    • But something that should help is to manage your expectations when you are moving into a time of change. Make sure you are not putting unrealistic expectations on the situation & know that is something goes wrong or mistakes are made, it’s fine & no one is perfect at everything the first time or a lot of the time in the beginning.
    • It’s also important to accept change as a part of your life & know that not everything will turn out the way you want it to, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.
    • It can also be helpful to learn as much as possible about any changes coming up in your life, be as knowledgeable as possible & make a plan, if possible.
    • Lastly, it’s always important to practice gratitude. It will help you have the best mindset & keep you focused more on the things to be positive about, rather than negative.

  • Activities to Challenge Your Social Anxiety - Social Anxiety

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Social Anxiety

Social Anxiety affects people all over the world in different ways & to different degrees, but the core thought that so many people are affected by social interactions still brings a sense of unity when figuring out how to go about overcoming its symptoms.

I hope this week's episodes are helpful on how to overcome social anxiety, challenge it on the regular & understand more about the disorder, in general.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • I thought it would be fun to end the week with a challenge that you can do on the regular.
    • Today I want to give you some experiences to use to challenge yourself & aid in your recovery for social anxiety.
    • By engaging in these activities, you can work on overcoming your fears & social anxiety struggles.
    • Let’s begin with things you can do if more of your struggles have to do with direct one-on-one interactions.
    • You can maintain eye contact when speaking with someone, ask a friend or co-worker out to lunch, be the one that calls someone on the phone for a chat, ask more open-ended questions to keep a conversation going, or give a compliment to a stranger.
    • Now things that are more in the realm of being in big gatherings would be to go to a party alone, talk with a stranger at an event, arrive to the event a few minutes late instead of early, or host your own event at your home.
    • If your fears revolve more around being out in public spaces alone, try going grocery shopping alone when you need to purchase many items, eat in a restaurant alone, or go for a walk alone.
    • Now for things that have to do with the fear of what people think about you, wear something you would not normally wear or that would make you stand out, try out a new exercise class that you are unfamiliar with, talk to someone about a topic you don’t know much about, or make a new friend.
    • Lastly, here are a couple of random things to try that I didn’t really know how to categorize: order something at a cafe or restaurant without practicing what you are going to say first, go somewhere you have never been before, even if in the city you live in, talk to a stranger when you’re out about any random topic, answer your phone when it rings instead of letting it go to voicemail, respond to texts right away as opposed to waiting several days, and finally talk to someone about your social anxiety.

    • I want to start with the fact that recovery is not quick & easy. Slow & steady wins the race, as disappointing as that may sound. There will definitely be some quick fixes you can do in the moment to calm you & recover momentarily, but to be better for the long run, it will take ongoing work & determination to recover slowly so that it sticks.
    • I talk a lot about self-awareness & I am going to mention here, too. You need to get to know yourself better, understand why you are experiencing the anxiety you are, take the time to evaluate your decisions & actions to bring you closer to solutions that will work better for your healing process.
    • Something else to keep in mind is to not give up, even in times where your anxiety may seem more overwhelming than normal. You want to establish some self-discipline & not give up every time things get hard. Don’t quit in the midst of it.
    • Also make the conscious effort to become better each day. This is one of the main things I talk about all the time, because all the content I create is all based on creating things that will help & contribute to anyone & everyone becoming their best selves. And that takes daily work. You have to want that & take action on those desires.
    • Nothing will change when you stay in your comfort zone.
    • In addition to that, make sure you are just being your authentic self. Practicing authenticity & transparency is the best thing you can do for yourself in general, but also to overcome social anxiety. The more accepting you are of yourself, the better it will be to heal from your anxious tendencies.
    • I always throw in journaling as a way to process thoughts, feelings & emotions. It’s an appropriate outlet & a way to understand yourself more & feel kind of relieved & not drowning in everything in your mind.
    • For me, panic attacks are an issue that comes with my social anxiety. And a lot of times I will just ride out that experience because I find a way to hide, but I have been working on coming up with calming techniques that work for me in the moment, to alleviate that pressure & the effects of the attack on me. Things like taking a moment to be alone & breathe in some fresh air, talk to someone you trust, creating a distraction to have something else to think about & meditation.
    • Also, there is always the option of getting professional help. And this is never a bad option. And it’s one that is always available.
    • Lastly, remember that the way people treat you is a reflection on them, not you. I say this all the time & it’s true every single time. And it’s always a great reminder to have.
