  • What Destroys Self-Worth? - Regain Self Worth

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Regain Self Worth

This week we are going to speak heavily on the importance of self-worth, what breaks it down & what builds it up & how it benefits our everyday lives.

Join me in learning more about regaining self-worth this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • The things that destroy your self worth aren’t negative things that happen day to day, that would easily bring down your self-esteem, but unresolved issues from past experiences & emotions you haven’t dealt with.
    • Whatever happened in those experiences created deep-seeded beliefs that highly affect your self-worth.
    • And I would say the biggest emotion that brings down self-worth is sustained shame.
    • Shame is one of those things that can cling to us so tightly & for so long. Shame is the feeling of thinking we are unworthy, bad or wrong in conjunction to something that has happened. And it definitely changes the way we think about ourselves.
    • Unresolved shame can cause feelings of depression, anxiety, low self-esteem & low self-worth. And obviously it’s an unpleasant thing to live with & carry around.
    • Those experiencing shame live with the belief that them as a person, not what they have done or said, classifies them as bad or wrong. Sometimes this can ignite a change in people to become different, but with others, it can just be overwhelmingly paralyzing.
    • In addition to speaking about shame, low self-worth stems from major events in your life, like childhood traumas & abuse, poor parenting & attachment growing up, & negative core beliefs like believing you are unlovable, no one likes you or that knowing who you really are would push people away.
    • Another important thing to mention about self-worth is that it cannot come from outside factors. It has to come from who you think you are & what you believe about yourself.
    • Making more money, having more friends & fame, people finding you attractive, or trying to change what your body looks like to please others or look like someone you believe is more appealing will not increase your self-worth. Those things might boost your self-esteem, but even then it will only be temporary.
    • A lot of times people believe that self-worth can be measured by how much money you make, who your friends are, what kind of job you have & how well you are succeeding at it, and any other achievements.
    • These things do not have a direct relationship with who you are as a human & your true worth.

  • Self-Worth vs. Self-Esteem - Regain Self Worth

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Regain Self Worth

This week we are going to speak heavily on the importance of self-worth, what breaks it down & what builds it up & how it benefits our everyday lives.

Join me in learning more about regaining self-worth this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Let’s start with the distinction: Self-esteem is what you think, believe & feel about yourself. Self-worth is knowing that you are more than all those things, knowing that you are valuable, loveable & needed in this world.
    • It’s pretty easy to mix these 2 up or believe these are the same thing. But just know that they are not the same. Similar, yes, but not the same.
    • Self-esteem is how we evaluate ourselves. It’s us doing our own assessments & evaluations of who we are, what we are doing & whether or not we are doing it well.
    • And having healthy self-esteem is super important because if you aren’t staying aware of your self-esteem being on an even keel, it will shift to one of the 2 extremes. Healthy self-esteem means you have an honest & realistic idea of what you’re all about. But when your self-esteem is too high, you regard yourself much higher than you should, including exaggerating your traits & downplaying your faults & it flies close to being a narcissist. But when it’s too low, you don’t treat yourself as well because you think too poorly of yourself.
    • Self-worth is your belief that you are valuable, important, loveable despite what you may think about your skills, abilities, failures & successes. So if your self-esteem starts to plummet or go sideways for some reason, your self-worth still allows you to love yourself & know you still have worth.
    • The thing that can really disrupt your self-worth is depression. Depression can cause you to think you aren’t worthy of so many things, which causes your self-worth to plummet. It’s a matter of your perception getting twisted, even to the point that you don’t believe you deserve love, but that others do, despite the fact that self-worth is the idea that you should have the same feelings about yourself that you do about others & what they deserve.
    • It’s also important to note that self-esteem is also influenced by outside events & experiences. You’re basing how you think about yourself based on other people’s feedback, opinions, your experiences with others & how you fail & thrive in life. And unfortunately, by letting these things completely dictate your self-esteem, you limit your beliefs of yourself & ability to believe in yourself.
    • Some people would say that self-worth is on more of a spiritual level, however you want to think about that, but it can be seen as more of an essence of who you are.
    • And I think there is some truth to that, because generally, if you have a sense of self-worth, you have an unconditional sense of who you are, that you matter, you’re worthy of everything anyone else is & you don’t find the need to prove yourself in everything. Also, your goal should be to match your self-esteem to your self-worth.
    • Both self-esteem & self-worth are necessary in life. And balance is key.

  • Start With Self Love - Regain Self Worth

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Regain Self Worth

This week we are going to speak heavily on the importance of self-worth, what breaks it down & what builds it up & how it benefits our everyday lives.

Join me in learning more about regaining self-worth this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Self-love is important because you are responsible to take care of yourself. Despite anyone loving you & wanting to take care of you, you are still the one that needs to do it. You need to take the time to care for yourself so you can accomplish everything you set out to do & to have the capacity to care for others.
    • The idea of self-love is that you are putting your happiness first & taking care of yourself. You are validating yourself, giving yourself unconditional respect, acceptance & affirmations that you are doing great. Again, self-love is a necessity in life & something everyone should make time for & prioritize.
    • And know that all your personal needs deserve to be met, that you are worthy of just as much as the next person, deserving of happiness & super valuable in this world.
    • Here are some ideas on how to practice self-love & really take care of your own needs:
    • Stop your negative self-talk.
    • Focus on your achievements & successes.
    • Set personal boundaries.
    • Ask for help when you need it.
    • Practice gratitude.
    • Let go of what you can’t control.

  • Why Does It Matter? - Being Brave

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Being Brave

It's important we know that being brave is not pretending that fear doesn't exist, but that we can push past it & still conquer our goals & live our lives!

Join me in learning more about being brave this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • We need bravery in our lives because it will help us face our fears & overcome different obstacles in our lives.
    • And I want you to know that bravery does not need to be some big thing that you stand-up to or a life-changing event or decision. It could easily be confronting someone for treating you badly. Going somewhere that generally makes you uncomfortable & anxious, but doing it because it will help you grow & adapt. Speaking up in a meeting or group, despite what they may think of your opinion. Or even asking for help when you know you need it, even if you’re normally too proud to do that.
    • Bravery is going to be the thing we need to stand up for ourselves & stand up for someone else. We need to have access to that courage & strength as quick as possible.
    • And cultivating bravery is so important because it grows & becomes stronger over time, allowing you to step outside of your comfort zone more often & more confidently.
    • Fear is going to continue to exist in your life, come & go, which is important to note, so by you developing your bravery, you are more able to take on & face those fears when the time comes.
    • By being brave & facing your fears, you are more likely to succeed & excel in life than you would hiding behind & using fears as an excuse.
    • Bravery also matters because by being brave, you are essentially mastering your emotions.
    • And being brave is honoring & showing respect to yourself. You are going after the things you need to do, despite what fears or other excuses start to crop up.
    • Bravery matters because you matter. By being brave you can become a better you.

  • How to Conquer Fear - Being Brave

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Being Brave

It's important we know that being brave is not pretending that fear doesn't exist, but that we can push past it & still conquer our goals & live our lives!

Join me in learning more about being brave this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Fear is one of the biggest reasons we don’t step out of our comfort zones. We can’t be brave & step into our confidence & courage if we are constantly hiding before fear.
    • Let’s talk about some ways we can conquer fear & move-on from that being an excuse.
    • Embrace your fear & put a name to it. Understand that your fear could actually help you identify what you think is standing in your way & what needs to be worked on to succeed. And it’s always a better choice to face your fear head on, rather than ignore it & let it control you for life.
    • Get educated on your fears. Most of the time fear is derived from the unknown, uncertainty. Which means if you take the time to learn exactly why you are having the fears you have, what has caused those fears to bloom & what those fears can teach you about yourself will actually turn your fear into a helpful opportunity. Take some time to get educated on the fear so that the uncertainty goes away.
    • Try to surround yourself with people that will push you positively. I believe it is important to have people in your inner circle that encourage you, pump you up & support you through everything. But it’s also important that those same people push you to do things you know & they know you can do, but you are too scared to push yourself to do. These people in your life come in clutch to add the pressure & help you step out of your comfort zone & go for it.
    • What’s the worst that could happen? A lot of times we can make the fear & uncertainty bigger than it needs to be in our minds. Sometimes the best course of action to ask yourself what is the worst thing that could happen & even IF that still sounds not fun, recognize that after giving it some perspective, it’s a little bit smaller than it was & you can continue to do this until it’s small enough for you to not care as much & move past it.
    • Do it a different way. If your fear has anything to do with failing previously, try to shake up your next approach a bit. Don’t do it the same way & figure out what didn’t go right the first time & use that info to execute a different plan of action.
    • Stop choosing security over bravery. More often than not, we will put up with something, no matter how unhappy it makes us, just because it’s so much easier to keep doing the familiar than try something new. It’s important to start valuing courage over security because it’s much better to step out & try to do the things that will help you grow & succeed than to stay stuck & continue to cling to the things that make you feel safe, but stagnant.

  • What's Standing In Your Way? - Being Brave

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Being Brave

It's important we know that being brave is not pretending that fear doesn't exist, but that we can push past it & still conquer our goals & live our lives!

Join me in learning more about being brave this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Many times we will want to be brave, but cannot figure out what is standing in our way of being able to. And I’m here to tell you that more often than not, it’s yourself.
    • I’m sure there has been an instance in your life where you were trying to pump yourself up & create some brave mindset to help you get through some upcoming scary things. But then you found yourself more scared in the end. Why is that? It’s because of the additional pressure you put on the situation.
    • And that pressure that you bring about yourself can be seen in a few different ways.
    • Your Mind Will Try to Manipulate You. It’s all those negative thoughts that you let live in your mind. It’s the insults that you let yourself make against you. It’s the words, opinions & suggestions from other people that you let dictate your life. No matter what feedback you receive from others or plant there yourself, you have the choice to keep it or kick it to the curb. When these thoughts continue to exist, you are allowing them to live & grow within your mind.
    • You Let Obstacles Distract You. Have you ever been on your way to doing something outside of your comfort zone but happily welcomed a distraction to prevent you from doing said thing? Yeah, that’s you letting things get in your way on purpose. It’s the fear! The fear that is allowing you to make excuses & purposely put things in your way & allowing you to get in your own way.
    • You Stay In Your Comfort Zone. This is an obvious one, but you KNOW you have to step outside of your comfort zone to be brave. Because not doing that isn’t exercising bravery, just your normalcy. And one of the best benefits of stepping outside of your comfort zone is to discover new things you love, things you’re good at, and as dramatic as it sounds, things that could change your life. And I want you to know, despite how harsh this may sound, but life will continue to pass you by if you stay hidden. You might feel like you are putting pause on your life or hiding from any of the bad things, but in reality, you are just letting opportunities pass you by & just because you are putting yourself out there to experience anything new or anything that could disrupt your life doesn’t mean it won’t happen. This is not meant to sound negative, but to push you to take baby steps, then big kid steps, then grown-up steps out into the world & have faith you have the strength to push through.

  • What Is Bravery - Being Brave

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Being Brave

It's important we know that being brave is not pretending that fear doesn't exist, but that we can push past it & still conquer our goals & live our lives!

Join me in learning more about being brave this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • This week I thought it would be helpful to talk about being brave because I know that many people, including myself, have trouble with being brave, especially in times where we really want to be brave, but everything about fear causes us to cower.
    • I personally have been having issues with being brave because the unknown scares me so much. I have the biggest issue with getting past all my worries & thought out worst-case scenarios. And this has prevented me from stepping out of my comfort zone so many times & trying new things. This fear of failure.
    • And despite me giving you advice this week all about how to be more brave, what it means to be brave, why it matters & everyday examples, being brave still boils down to you making the choice, the decision, to stop letting fear get in your way of doing things differently.
    • Let’s chat about what exactly it means to be brave. To be brave, it means to have the mental strength to face fear, dangers or difficulties. To be brave, you have to listen to that voice inside your head that is telling you you can do it. It’s saying you can do anything. And you can do anything because fear is going to show up no matter what & but that doesn’t mean it has to hold you back.
    • By honoring the voice inside you, may it be big, small or somewhere in the middle, you are being your brave self & tapping into that inner mental strength.
    • And it is said that being brave & courageous is not the absence of fear, but the ability to manage & overcome their emotional response to fear. This means you are in charge of what you do & how you react, rather than solely your emotions.
    • And when you are brave, you are able to sit in the unknown & it does not scare you to death. I’m not saying there won’t be any fear there at all, but any fear that does creep up will not deter you from trying, from changing, from doing something new.
    • I want to make sure you understand that being brave does not mean you won’t be scared at times or have second thoughts. You will, but true bravery will kick those things to the curb & push you to try, despite those things. Being brave means pressing on despite the fear you will face & challenges that will come.
    • Being brave is an admirable quality, but is more often than not attributed to people that do really big things, like a fireman that saves a family, & that’s just not all true. Being brave can be as simple as just finally deciding to get the professional help you need to manage your anxiety or depression.
    • The act of bravery can be a scary situation, be really overwhelming & not easy at all, but generally worth it in the end.

  • Relationship Reminders - Relationship Struggles

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Relationship Struggles

Relationships can be super tough, but it's important to remember that in the end, it's totally worth it because the hard stuff is what creates a stronger & deeper bond with your partner.

I want to talk about some of the hard things that come with being in relationships & how to get through those things & have amazing bonds.

Join me in learning more about relationship struggles this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • To close out the week, I thought it would be nice to end on some fun, friendly & helpful reminders to have while in a relationship.
    • Remember to tell them how you feel on the regular. Whether you are in love or not, make sure you are taking a moment to tell your partner how you feel about them.
    • Don’t try to always win. Don’t be so passionate that you have to win every fight. Let things go instead of nit picking & making something out of nothing. Instead of saying ‘sorry’ ask for forgiveness. It’s more sincere. And keep your pride & ego in check. Relationships are 2 way streets & everyone is a contributor.
    • Keep communication flowing. Don’t assume things, it causes trouble. When in doubt, talk it out. Also, don’t spread personal biz that should stay within the relationship out to the world. There is a difference between telling a close someone something in confidence & blasting on social media.
    • Establish personal boundaries. Remember at all costs that everyone is in charge of their own feelings, emotions, habits, actions, decisions, everything. This includes not blaming your partner for how you are feeling. You make that choice. Do not try to change someone into something else. Don’t take responsibility for someone else’s emotions. Say no when you want to & enforce your own boundaries when it’s necessary.
    • Manage your expectations for your partner. Just don’t have expectations of them, unless you both have agreed upon it & it’s reasonable.
    • Put time into your relationship. There is a healthy balance of too much time with your partner & not enough. Make sure you are spending time together, letting them know how important they are to you, continue to get to know them as an individual & being aware of the other’s needs.
    • Know when you might need help. Let’s say you have been in a relationship for a bit & your partner & you have some issues & disagreements to work out but are unable to do it on your own. Know when to seek help from a professional or someone you BOTH really trust as a mediator or counselor. Don’t let pride get in your way & prevent you from fixing something that truly means something to you.

  • Watch Out for Codependency! - Relationship Struggles

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

    • I already have a whole week of episodes talking about & explaining everything having to do with codependency. However, I wanted to take a moment to talk about it in regards to avoiding falling into it while in a relationship. But just know that if you want more info & an in-depth chat about it, please listen to those other episodes.
    • Here are some quick-hitter things to keep in mind when in a relationship:
    • Stop denying your own needs & make self-care a priority. It can be super easy to fall into the trap of making everything all about your partner, but it’s important to know that your needs matter just as much as theirs do.
    • Don’t avoid hard conversations or conflict. It may be very difficult to confront your partner when hard topics come up or when discussions need to be had, but if you continue to hide things or try not to make waves, serious resentment can occur & you will constantly live in fear of upsetting your partner, making your relationship difficult to bear after awhile. This is also an opportunity to think about instituting personal boundaries.
    • Make sure to not let everything you do be taken for granted. It’s important to have a good balance in your relationship, so make sure you aren’t constantly going out of your way to do things for your partner & not getting any acknowledgment or gratefulness in return.
    • Know that time apart is really healthy & needed. Sometimes people think that being addicted to each other is the best thing ever, but in honesty, it’s important to take time apart to be appreciative of your own life & really appreciate when you come back together.
    • Know that who you are & what you’re all about is determined by you, not your partner. Don’t let yourself get consumed into being the person you think your partner wants you to be or possibly forcing you to be. Be yourself. It’s not worth it to keep up a charade, that will break down at some point, because if you can’t be yourself, truly, it won’t be a long-lasting relationship. Don’t lose yourself to someone else.
