  • Kindness is Being Honest - Kindness

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Kindness

This week we are going to speak about how important kindness is to our everyday lives, how we can show kindness to ourselves & others and some easy ways to be more courteous & considerate to others!

Join me in learning more about the importance of kindness & how to be more kind!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Today I wanted to speak on how a part of being kind to yourself, which we will talk more about tomorrow, includes being honest with yourself.
    • Being honest with yourself is part of developing self-awareness & truly understanding who you are & what you’re all about.
    • Being honest with yourself is considered kindness because it’s one of the most decent things you can do for full life experience & understanding. It also allows you to be more positive, despite what you are currently going through.
    • You are also able to accept your weaknesses & faults much easier because you are more accepting of who you are in general. And with this type of self-awareness, you care less & less about what others think of you.
    • Here are some more ways you can be honest with yourself, which will also be attributing kindness to yourself:
    • Acknowledge the good & the bad in your life & come to terms with those things as normal & necessary experiences.
    • Admit your mistakes & refrain from blaming others for your problems & experiences. A lot of times we try to protect our ego by shifting blame or coming up with excuses, but to truly be honest with ourselves, we need to not ignore any of our negative experiences & face those things head on.
    • Admit what you don’t know. Be kind & honest with yourself that you don’t know everything & that you don’t have to know everything. It’s an unnecessary expectation that we thrust upon ourselves that really gets in the way of your courage & strength. Also, understanding our limitations keeps us open to new opportunities & experiences.
    • Avoid over-analyzing & rationalizing. Take the time to be more real & face problems head on.
    • Lastly, take time to reflect back on what’s going on in your life, not too harshly, but enough to understand what you need to improve on & what to continue growing in.

  • Choosing Kindness - Kindness

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • Let’s start with the importance of choosing kindness in general. It’s important to realize we do not have control over other people, but only ourselves. And in knowing that, we should take it upon ourselves to do our best to be our best selves & choose kindness as much as we can.
    • We can’t make anyone else be kind, but that shouldn’t stop us from being kind & being a role model of kindness for others.
    • And one of the hardest moments to choose kindness is after someone has wronged you. It’s in these moments that all we want to do is retaliate back with anger, meanness or a way to cause them pain. But it’s in these moments that we need to choose the high road & be strong enough to rise above them projecting their pain on you. Do not do the same to them.
    • Now let’s mention a few other ways we can choose kindness on the regular.
    • Try to practice empathy. Try your best to understand that everyone has feelings & has the right to those feelings. And if you can, go a step further & try to understand what someone may be going through & how that could feel for them. Being empathic can cause you to be more kind naturally because you are taking the time to understand what they are dealing with & how tough that could be to manage.
    • Be quicker to forgive. I know that forgiveness can be a really tough thing for people,, especially if you have been wronged a lot, but it’s important to practice forgiveness for others as much as possible. Forgiveness releases both the forgiver & the forgiven from the act. And I don’t want you to rush into forgiveness if you need time to process what has happened, but do not hold grudges or take too much time to forgive, as this just leaves the whole experience hanging over everyone’s heads. Part of forgiving someone is to understand what you are forgiving, try your best to empathize with them, move on from the experience & live more in the present, let go of expectations & learn from the experience. Remember that forgiving doesn't mean forgetting.
    • Be more generous. Being generous is naturally showing kindness. This could include helping someone when they need help, holding the door open, giving a meaningful compliment, or offering support. And an amazing quote I saw was, “kindness begins as a thought & ends as an action.” Another benefit of being kind is imaging the unknown ripple effect it can have on the world.
    • And let me end with mentioning that choosing kindness can just start with a smile. And if that’s all you can manage right now, that’s totally fine. And again, try to be kind, despite others not being kind to you. Also do your best to accept each other’s differences, be more tolerant of others, offer help, be supportive & try to avoid any unnecessary conflicts.

  • Why Kindness is Important - Kindness

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • I’m not going to talk too much about what kindness is because it’s one of those things everyone pretty much understands. But a quick breakdown of what kindness is: the quality of being nice just to be nice. Kindness is being generous & considerate without any expectations of anything from anyone else. If you are truly being kind, you are not doing it to gain anything from anyone, you are just doing it because it’s the right thing to do.
    • In regards to why kindness is important, the first thing I want to mention is how it makes you feel when you do it. When someone engages in kindness activities, it just makes you feel so good to do something nice for someone else.
    • It’s even been studied that those who do practice kindness start seeing an increase in general happiness, slower aging, feeling healthier overall & having better relationships with others. This is in comparison to someone that doesn’t practice kindness regularly or feels they are altruistic.
    • It’s also important to note that kindness begets kindness. And the more often you practice kindness, the more natural it becomes to be kind. Part of this could be due to the positive reactions we receive when we are seen being kind & the basic fact of it becoming a habit.
    • And I want to make sure I mention that sometimes being kind can be seen as being naive or weak, when really to be kind you have to have courage & strength, especially when needing to be kind when no one else is willing to be.
    • Another reason why kindness is important is because it can easily become contagious. There aren’t many things better than finding out someone that previously wasn’t exhibiting kindness is suddenly being kind, caring & considerate to others. And research has shown that we as humans are not made to be selfish or super-competitive by nature. We are created to be helpful & kind to one another & by being a role model for kindness, you will unknowingly encourage others to be kind, as well.
    • Let me end with telling you that showing kindness to others is just as rewarding as receiving kindness from others. Doing good for others feels good & it brings us together as a community.

  • How Asking for Help Connects Us - Getting Help/Asking for Help

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Getting Help/Asking for Help

This week we are going to speak about how important it is to ask for help & why it isn't burdensome, how it will help our egos & pride to do so & the connection you gain by reaching out to others.

Join me in learning more about the importance of asking for help this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • I have already mentioned several times that when you reach out & ask people for help, you are not only getting help for yourself, but helping the other person, as well.
    • More times than not, when you ask someone for their help, the answer will be yes because it is human nature to be helpful. And in addition to that, people love to help others because it allows for an opportunity to show off & demonstrate their skills.
    • But speaking specifically about gained connectedness, asking for help is a great way to create new friendships, relationships with others, create new opportunities for collaboration, learn new things in general & understand how we can all be good at different things but come together as a community & work together.
    • And we as humans are social creatures, so given the opportunity to reach out to someone, engage them, even if it is for help with something, it still a connection opportunity.
    • There has actually been some research within self-determination studies that talk about how humans have a basic need for relatedness among one another. This means that we all want to have meaningful & real relationships with other peeps. This also means we want to care for others & have others care for us. And asking for help really strengthens those connections & relationships.
    • And as I have alluded to before, people really do enjoy helping others & by asking someone to help you, you give that person the opportunity to do something gratifying & meaningful for someone else. You are also giving the person you ask for help praise in a way, because you believe in their ability to help you & possibly their known skills, so they may feel flattered or fulfilled in being asked to help.
    • And the point I want to end on is that asking for help requires vulnerability, as I mentioned on Tuesday’s episode, and by being brave enough to expose your vulnerability & ask others for help, you are being an example for others to do so, as well. And in doing so, you might find out similarities you have with others you ask for help or that exhibit you doing so. There’s nothing wrong with being a role model.
    • Oh, and don’t forget that if you reach out for help, be ready for someone to ask you for help. It’s not necessarily a requirement that you be willing to help someone else out, but it’s the right thing to do. It will also be beneficial for getting more help in the future if you do agree to help others. Otherwise, people aren’t really keen on helping someone that doesn’t reciprocate once in a while.

  • How to Ask for Help - Getting Help/Asking for Help

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Wednesday!

    • Asking for help can seem like such a simple task, but when you actually go to do it, it can be really hard because we let our thoughts get us all twisted up & be in our own way.
    • Asking for help can also be even harder, depending on the subject at hand. For example, it may be super easy for you to ask for help at work but really difficult to ask for help in regards to your mental health. Or maybe it’s easy to ask for help with chores around the house but asking for help at work gives you literal anxiety.
    • Before you decide to ask someone for help, please make sure you go into the asking part with as much humbleness as possible. What I mean by this is try to leave your ego & pride at the door. You want to make sure you don’t boast too much in your request for help, which makes it sound less like you need help & more like you are ALLOWING someone to help you when you actually need help.
    • First, I would suggest figuring out what exactly you need help with. It’s best to really narrow down what your request will be when it comes to that point & to understand why you are unable to get whatever done on your own. You will feel so much better & not like you are less than or incompetent if you truly understand why you are unable to complete the task by yourself.
    • Next, make sure the person you ask for help is either experienced in the area you need help or at least is generally willing to be helpful. That’s not to say you can’t ask someone you don’t really know for help & not know if they are either of those things, but it’s easier if they are. This will also help the whole process be much more efficient & not possibly require you to find someone else to help because the first person didn’t work out.
    • Next, spend some time figuring out some possible solutions to what you need help with it so that you have some suggestions when you go to ask someone for help. It can be helpful to go to the person with some possible solutions already thought up, saving that person some work on how to help.
    • And with that, it’s also important to be specific in what you need help with. Being ambiguous will create complications & confusion for the person trying to help you. Narrow down for you need as much as possible & present them with those thoughts & ideas.
    • Lastly, before you ask for help I want you to consider what the other person may be going through. Think about timing. And I understand that this can create some issues & cause some people to just not ask at all because they assume everyone is always too busy. But what I mean by this is if that person is going through something really tough you know about, maybe don’t ask for help then or seek someone else during that time. Just have a little bit of awareness for what would work best for them to assist you.

  • Your Ego's in the Way - Getting Help/Asking for Help

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

    • One of the biggest reasons we don’t ask for help is because we let our pride & ego get in our way & convince us that we either don’t need help because doing it on our own is more respectable or honorable or that we will be looked down upon for requiring help.
    • Today we are going to go through several different barriers that prevent us from asking for help.
    • Pride - It can be hard to deal with the idea that you aren’t able to do everything yourself. But we are only one person & were not created to live life alone & do everything on our own.
    • Not wanting to burden someone else - I get that this feeling can be so very overwhelming & the guilt can mount up, but just know that more often than not, people want to help you. And you won’t know if you are burdening someone until you ask.
    • Fear of rejection - No one likes to feel like they are being rejected, but you actually won’t know you are going to be rejected until you give it a chance. And I understand that you may have past history & experience with being rejected, which makes you even more scared to put yourself out there, but there is no way to have good experiences until you put yourself out there again & again.
    • Embarrassment - You think they are going to make fun of you for asking? You feel uncomfortable not knowing how to do something & needing to ask for help?  Just know that you are not the only person feeling that way & if you go into asking for help with that mindset, it will be much easier to endure the whole experience & any feelings.
    • Looking weak or incompetent/imposter syndrome - You are not weak for asking for help. If anything, you are being smart & working more efficiently. We spend so much time putting up the exterior shell that we can handle anything & everything, which may be true sometimes, but it doesn’t need to be true all the time. And just know that everyone experiences imposter syndrome & usually the people suffering from imposter syndrome are the ones that are the most committed & capable people. The peeps that are really faking it think they are better than everyone else.
    • Feeling indebted - You’re not indebted to anyone that helps you. If people want to help you, accept it as a gift & nice gesture. Just because someone helps you does not mean you owe them anything. And if they are expecting something, that’s their own expectation they need to work on. You only owe someone something if you agreed upon it beforehand.
    • Vulnerability - Exercising any opportunity to be vulnerable is great. You are allowing yourself to have the courage to show up & been seen for who you are & not care what will happen next.

  • Why Asking for Help is Necessary - Getting Help/Asking for Help

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Monday!

    • Asking for help can be extremely difficult, especially if we are the type of person that likes to get things done on our own or we let our ego get in the way.
    • And I know that some of the thoughts that prevent us from reaching out to someone else for their expertise is the fear of looking weak, experiencing anxiety, breaking down our ego or even questioning our own abilities to get the job done.
    • But I’m here to tell you that asking others for help is very necessary & will get you to your endpoint much quicker & more efficiently.
    • Not asking for help when we need it is just us getting in our own way. And the best way to get over this type of thinking is to think of asking for help as connecting with someone else & being more efficient, rather than seeing ourselves as a burden. We will talk more about that this week.
    • But for now, let’s focus on why asking for help is super important.
    • Asking for help is important because you are only one person. No one really knows how to do everything or has the knowledge to know how to accomplish everything themself.
    • It’s true that having the ability to manage everything ourselves feels very empowering, but we must understand that as humans, we have limitations. And even if the limitation isn’t our knowledge, it could be our time.
    • Other people love to help. I personally feel, despite how things actually turn out in certain circumstances, that it is human nature to want to help others. And allowing someone else to assist fulfills that human desire.
    • A lot of people, including myself, find fulfillment & joy from helping someone else & it feels even better when you get asked to assist someone else. You feel needed & wanted. And I know the fear of burdening someone is one of the reasons you don’t ask for help, but it’s generally not the truth. We will speak more to this tomorrow.
    • Growth opportunities are super important & necessary. Obviously you will be learning from whoever is teaching or assisting you. Take the opportunity to learn something new or brush up on something you may have forgotten.
    • Also, along with people loving to help, teaching is also very fulfilling for some.

  • The Benefits of Self-Worth in Everyday Life - Regain Self Worth

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Friday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Regain Self Worth

This week we are going to speak heavily on the importance of self-worth, what breaks it down & what builds it up & how it benefits our everyday lives.

Join me in learning more about regaining self-worth this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • As seems to be a trend recently, I am going to be giving you an amazing list of reasons why self-worth is important & beneficial to your life.
    • And I encourage you to go back & listen to any of the episodes you missed this week to get a better understanding of self-worth, how it’s busted & boosted.
    • Believing in your inherent value will help prevent you from seeking out addictive habits, like drugs & alcohol, to fill that void.
    • Self-worth can be preventative in poor mental health.
    • Ability to be more honest & authentic in relationships because of not feeling the need to hide & pretend.
    • Easier to make decisions because you trust yourself & know that no matter what, your life will work out.
    • You’re able to bounce back from setbacks easier. Having self-worth allows you to be more resilient because you know that if things go south, it isn’t the end of the world. The opposite would be to have low self-worth & be devastated every time something didn’t work out.
    • Something else amazing is that self-worth helps you have more realistic expectations because you understand that perfection isn’t real or a necessary goal.
    • Lastly, self-worth provides confidence. You are sure in who you are, your abilities & ideals, so you can walk into different situations & opportunities & feel good about what decisions you will make & opinions you will have.

  • What Builds Self-Worth? - Regain Self Worth

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Thursday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Regain Self Worth

This week we are going to speak heavily on the importance of self-worth, what breaks it down & what builds it up & how it benefits our everyday lives.

Join me in learning more about regaining self-worth this week!

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • As mentioned before, self-worth comes from deep within yourself & how you feel & think about yourself, which means that those thoughts & beliefs are deep-seeded & created as you have grown-up & experienced life. And this also means that any work that you have to do to boost it backup will take more work than just working on your self-esteem or general confidence. You might have to dig deep.
    • Now, because of what I just said, it’s important to note that just practicing positive thinking or pretending to be ok & disregard how you are truly feeling & hoping it magically goes away will not work. You can solve many things with a positive mindset, but this is not one of those.
    • I would suggest starting with understanding more about yourself. Knowing who you are & what you want will help you identify & increase your self-worth. Develop a deeper self-understanding by asking yourself questions like: Who am I? Who am I not? What would happen if I lost everything? What defines who I am? What do I struggle with? How can I improve myself?
    • Next, I would encourage you to forgive yourself of anything that you have been holding onto & holding against yourself. Everyone deserves forgiveness, even yourself. This also feeds into practicing self-compassion & understanding that everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect & accepting yourself as you are is the best course of action.
    • I know I always talk about personal boundaries. Establish personal boundaries because that will allow you to set your own personal restrictions & boundaries that work best for you & allow you to live your life the best you can. Personal boundaries also allow you to not feel responsible for other people & to remove or opt out of situations that just aren’t your jam.
    • As mentioned on Monday, practicing self-love will help you care for yourself more & be more accepting of yourself & continually happy with who you are & are becoming. Self-love will also reinforce knowing that you are valued, special & worthy.
    • And lastly, practicing gratitude & seeking professional help can help more than you probably think. I know that sometimes there is a fear to seeking counseling or something in that realm of help, but know that it’s totally normal & actually very mature & smart to seek out help from someone that has spent a good portion of their life studying a subject you are struggling with.
