Welcome to the first episode of Reclaim Your Life With Kate. For this first episode, Kate is going to talk about what stress and overwhelm are, external vs. internal stressors and what you can do about it.
The first definition of stress is a neurological and physiological shift that happens in your body. It's anything that you see, touch, hear, taste or imagine that can cause you harm. The second definition of stress Kate gives us is when we evaluate environmental demand as beyond our ability to cope.
Kate explains to us what some of the external stressors that may be in our life, particularly societal expectations, and offers being a mom as an example. All of the self-talk we have about our bodies, or the memories of our traumatic experiences we hold on to, as well as our worries are examples of internal stressors.
Kate talks to us about the brain and explains the differences between our animal brain, or as she calls it, the "brainimal", and the thinking brain. She also explains to us where the fight or flight response comes in to all of this. She gives us real life examples of a scenario, helping us understand our brains and stressors better. Kate openly shares with us what she goes through with stress and offers the way to deal with it.
