Over the years, we've come to realize that though we love each other, when conflict occurs or when we want to express ourselves to our partners, we may end up creating more distance between us instead of feeling heard in the process. One reason for this could be as a result of how we communicate our concerns or express our frustrations with our spouses. Maybe you are trying to get your spouse to listen to you but it seems like you can't get through to your spouse. We know how frustrating this can be especially because this is your spouse & life partner and you just want to feel heard. This is why in this episode, we will be sharing 2 mistakes you may be unintentionally making while communicating in your marriage...making it more challenging for your spouse to listen to you, and what to do instead.
A letter…a special letter.

Welcome to Reconnected Marriage.
I’m David Haastrup, husband to my blessed and beautiful wife, Ebun, dad of three, co-author of A Couple’s First Ten Years, Christian Marriage Coach, and Conflict De-escalation Strategist.
Ebun and I have been married for more than 16 years, and we know what it’s like to feel disconnected while navigating work, parenting, relocation, and unexpected life challenges. We also know what it’s like to deepen our connection and intimacy over the years.
Through our marriage, my experience navigating conflict in high-pressure healthcare environments, and my work with couples, I’ve learned something important:
The argument you’re having isn’t always the real issue.
Sometimes, something deeper is happening beneath the words: unspoken expectations, emotional triggers, different perspectives, unresolved hurt, or patterns you may not even realize you’ve fallen into.
On Reconnected Marriage, I share practical tools, biblical wisdom, and real-life lessons to help you understand what’s happening beneath conflict, respond differently when things get difficult, and restore connection.
We’ll explore:
At the heart of the conversations we’ll have is this:
You don’t have to wait for your spouse to change before taking your next courageous step. You cannot control your spouse, but you can choose how you show up—and when one person chooses a new response, it can begin to change the way you relate to each other.
Maybe you’ve quietly thought:
“We love each other. So why do we keep ending up here?”
“I want us to understand each other better.”
“I want us to feel close again.”
If that’s where you are, join me as we explore practical, faith-rooted ways to deepen your connection, experience more peace and unity at home, and begin moving toward a stronger, more connected marriage.
