While politicians and pundits make a scene calling this or that person violent, as a form of implying moral status, we take a look at various pieces of contemporary Left-Wing (American) literature to glean lessons on how we think about the subject. As difficult as it is to keep politics out of any conversation, this solo presentation addresses what we can learn about the ethical (note, not legal advice) use of force, through considering how these left wing authors implicitly categorize the people they write about in terms of metaphysics, when they should be doing so only ethically.

From the Rules of Engagement, to Escalation of Force, we consider what conditions are necessary for the ethical use of force in self defense. The left, in this case, has definitively embraced the concept of premptive self defense, which quickly invites the straw man arguments perhaps rightly thrown at it. But, in order to properly argue against it, we must understand the statements implied, as well as why they are incorrect, in order to do what is ethical.

The news of the new ruling put forth by the ATF regarding braces has rippled through the culture, and while we have seen actions taken in the past that will effect a section of the population, for once we are looking at a change that will impact us all. The last 15+ years has seen a rise of the popularity of firearms like the AR-15, dominating Gun Culture in America.

Today's guest, Josh Munger, entered into Gun Culture through two vectors: photography and business. Where some enter through competition shooting, military, law enforcement, or legacy businesses, Josh brings his own perspective as both a creative and curator.

Streamed out of order because as those who have been to SHOTSHOT know, by the end you're so tired, it's best to get some rest before seriously reconsidering what took place.

As the founder of Fieldcraft Survival, Mike Glover has taken part in shifting the colloquial concept of preparedness away from self-isolation in a bunker, instead replacing it with identifying the value in being an asset to your community. At the same time, the book The Fourth Turning has come back into vogue, spoken with the implication that we are approaching the Crisis. 

First Published in 1997, The Fourth Turning presents a theory that American History operates in a 4-phase generational cycle, beginning with the High, and followed an Awakening, an Unravelling, and finally a Crisis, before restarting with another High. Now that we've both read the book, Mike Glover and Forrest discuss just what phase we are in, and what it means when we are aiming at creating a better future, instead of simply waiting for the Crisis. Preparedness, as a virtue, must aim further than the pending apocalypse.

While in the past, Gun Culture has looked at the partition between military and civilian gear as one of quality and capability, that wall has since collapsed under the weight of reality, be it the rise of insurgency, or the return to a more pure understanding of Human Rights. DISCO32 has made a place for themselves bridging the gap between military accessories and civilian available radio equipment. 

Beginning with the fundamental question "what is a radio" and what is it for, we start from the foundations of the why which informs the how of communications systems. As Gun Culture continues to focus on teamwork and community, in order for that to take place, whether in the day-to-day or emergencies, we take a second look at how radios add value to any endeavor.

On Friday the 13th, the Eve before Shot Show, the BATFE has released their Final Ruling on Stabilizing Braces. The ramifications of this decision and timing are yet to be determined, but we will see both some immediate effects, and a long term review of Culture played live before our eyes.

It's no secret that Special Operations and the surrounding mythos has dominated Gun Culture for the last two decades, but as one generation passes the torch to the next, we are starting to see a need for a different set of skills. At the same time, this new wave of Gun Culture has grown up with AR-15's in a way that no previous generation had. As Millennials begin to take the reigns, in businesses, media, content, and even the Philosophy of Violence, we are seeing a slight tempering of some of the fervor, resulting in cooler-headed or wiser approach to the tasks at hand.

The history of how cultures, philosophers, and governments have approached the idea of self defense spans much further than the Second Amendment. While in our day, most arguments of the subject center on contemporary events, agendas, and problems, by peeling back the layers of history, we can humble ourselves before the summation of human knowledge and argumentation to try to better understand what we think. 
Sometimes we read in order to better understand something, and other times we investigate in order to better represent our conclusions. Both are accomplished in Joshua Baker's book, Deinfringe, where he traces a long series of philosophical as well as legal arguments regarding an individual's right to self defense. 

Joshua joins us on the REDACTED Culture Cast to discuss no only what led to the book's creation, but an extension of the arguments that produced it.
